Re-install Apps after ROM change

    Hi All,
Im just wondering is there any way of getting all of your apps "backed up" so if you change ROM, you can just automatically re-install/download them again? The only thing stopping me from changing ROM at the moment (Opendesire 2.2) is having to re-do all of the apps again.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Appbrain is one way to do what you want.

Yup, there's a number of apps that will do this.

I use (and prefer) MyBackup Pro. Another popular one is Titanium Backup but I found that a bit lacking. I think they're both paid apps but they offer a trial period. MyBackup is 30 days fully featured for free, which should get you through one or two rom changes at least.

If you have a rooted phone, MyBackup will retain the market links (so you get update notifications, etc.) -- if it's not rooted they'll be unlinked, which is more than a bit annoying tbh.

I had appbrain on the stock ROM but when I changed to opendesire it didnt recognise it anymore, and saw it as a "blank" phone again. I have titanium backup at the minute, but it looks like its an update.zip file it creates.

Ill have a look for mybackup now. How does the "re-install" of the apps work on it?

    Thanks

Titanium's update.zip file is probably what you restore from? Not sure.

MyBackup creates a zip file too. It takes all your apps and all your data, zips it up and puts it on your SD card.

When you change roms, first thing you do is hit the Market and download MyBackup again. It will see the zip on your SD card and allow you to restore from it. You'll just see a progress bar as files are extracted and installed and your data restored. All fairly simple.

As far as I recall, it restored the position of icons on the home screen(s) and other phone settings too.

Cool. That sounds exactly what Im looking for. I might go to Opendesire 3.0.5 now. Although Im half thinking a non-sense ROM might be the way to go. I might try it, do a full backup of everything from the card too (just in case) and see how it goes!

Ok fairly bizarre. Just updated to LeeDrOiD_V1.8 and all my apps were still on it!

Did you do a wipe before flashing the rom? If you didn't then your apps and settings will remain but it could lead to a few bugs with the rom. Hopefully not though.

You might be left a little short on internal space though, check under settings-sd and phone storage and let me know how much it is? When I flashed 1.8 I had about 130mb free storage which isnt bad.

I didnt do a wipe! But all my settings and everything were still on it...

I have 92MB internal left, and have used 55M/147M for 60 apps.

I backed up with Titanium last night but unfortunately although I could get all my apps etc back it seems to have lost all my messages. Not a huge deal but I would've preferred if it didn't. I mean it saved my Tasker profiles etc. why didn't it grab my texts?

Is it the standard app or you using a different one?

Can you not just restore data from nandroid, that is what I did, was I wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

I thought nandroid was an all or nothing restore. I.e the whole system / rom, not just the apps and data?

I tell ya, my data was f'ed up the other day, summit weird with market and market access, I ended up restoring to 2.1, then I wiped both options for data, reflashed 2.2 and then all my data was gone, so I went back into the recovery console, into nandroid and there was an option to restore data only, bobs your uncle, Philips your da and I'm back to normal, except with 2.2, beautifully simple
