Last call for pacers! We have a great team of pacers in place for the Dublin Marathon, but could use a few more at specific time bands. If you think you could pace a band at 3:00, 3:30, or 3:45; drop me a PM and we'll take it from there. Pacers get free entry, kit, €50 expenses, use of shower after, and that warm fuzzy glow at the end, when your pacees shower you with gratitude and affection:)

Won't be any pace bands other than those listed, sorry NT. Nothing to stop you running with the 3:00 pacers to get that elusive BQ!;)

It's only the BQ time for males under 35. You can't have a pace group for every BQ band!

Seems that the BQ times would actually be 3:10 and 3:15, but then pretty much every minute from 3:15 up as you get an extra 59 seconds for each year within the age band.

    Hey Andrew,

If you want to put me down as a reserve for the 4:30 group, I'd be happy to. I paced that time for Limerick and had a great time!

Thanks Brian, but we're fine for pacers for the slower bands. Now if you could pace sub3 I'd bite your arm off!

Totally off topic, but no, you don't! Everyone gets 59 extra seconds, i.e. they accept anything up to 3:10:59 for the 3:10 qualifier band, but that's for the entire age group. There is no mention of extra times per year.

Stupid trying to over explain things on their website when they could have just said the times were 3:10:59, 3:15:59.

This may be a stupid question from a Marathon novice but what are pacers for?

Pacers will run the marathon (carrying balloons so you can see who they are) at steady pace, and come in c.30 seconds before their time band. So, if you are looking for a sub 3:45 time, look for the pacers with the 3:45 balloons when you line up at the start, and run the race with their bunch. You'll have great support/chat along the way, and will be running a marathon in the most efficient manner.

Final call for anyone interested in becoming an official pacer for the Dublin Marathon. At this stage, we have a wealth of experience and talent, and have a number of reserves. However, if you fit the qualifying times below, we still have room for a few more pacers of the faster variety. If you think you could pace a band at 3:00, 3:15, or 3:30; drop me a PM and we'll take it from there. Pacers get free entry, kit, €50 expenses, use of shower after, and that warm fuzzy glow at the end, when your pacees shower you with gratitude and affection:)

    To all you Pacers,

YouR invaluable opinion would be appreciated.

As per my previous post, my aim is to run 3:10 in the Dublin marathon.
However, I am thinking of following the sub 3 pacers as there are no 3:10 pacers. Is this wise? All going well, I would hit the sub 3.

Some background, my PB's so far are,

    5k - 18:40
    10k - 39 mins
    10 miles - 65 mins
HM - 1.34 - Aiming for 1:29:59 in the half in 2 weeks
    Mara - 3:16

My training runs are going well so far and I feel good. However, I don't want to risk going at at sub 3 pace and blowing up at 22 miles or anywhere in fact.

Should I base my decision on my half marathon time and how I feel then or should I forget about it.

Apologies if this is pie in the sky.

    Cheers,

    NT

If you run 1:24/1:25 in the half, you might think of hanging on to the sub 3 pacers, otherwise the times you post suggest around 3:10 finish. So run to that pace, ie, somewhere between the sub 3 and sub 3:15 pacers. You shouldn't see either throughout the race after the start. No point going at sub 3 pace if you haven't trained for it, you'll just blow up. Best of luck on the day.

I assume your 10 miler is recent. Based on that sub 1.30 should be relatively straight forward.
After the half review your target. Aiming ot stick with the 3 hour group would be lunacy.

I ran the 10m in 66, and Berlin in 3:00 a few weeks later, so not entirely outside the realms of possibility. But yeah, I agree. Review the target after the 1/2 marathon. It really depends on your training and the volume of pmp runs.

If you do the half marathon at 6:50/mile and find it tough, then forget about running with the 3:00 pacers, as you may get to 13-15 miles on marathon day, and then struggle. It's a long, long way to the finish line from the 15 mile mark!
