The defining moment in your life?

Can you put your finger on one moment, outcome or decision that really changed your life?
Ina few weeks, redundancy is going to become the biggest for me. Bye bye Ireland..
And before that, it would be deciding to travel across the country to study in Galway instead of Belfast. That's shaped the last five years completely..

I don't think I could say there has been one defining moments, who knows if things had turned out different if I'd chosen another 'route'. All I know is I'm as happy as a pig in sheeeite at the moment so I'm not complaining!

That's not very nice, Scrappy :(

The first time I saw our baby would be a biggie for me, nothing else seems important (still doesn't near 2 years on) but there's been a few:
first spin on a motorbike (pretty much sealed my fate as far as hobby and career went :D)
first time I was made redundant changed me too, no matter how safe I feel I'll always worry (a little), it also structured my financial outlook too - I'll never owe more than I could repay on the dole, to this day I've stuck by all the above.

When I got my job about 9 months ago after returning back from Australia.

I was under 21 when signing on the dole, getting €100 a week, paying 65 rent and barely having enough for food. That was just dire straights...

When I first left home!.....didn't know what I was getting myself into the world of the unknown! Loved the freedom since then when I did live away from home...which I do miss now as I have moved back home! :(

A defining moment in my life came when I decided to travel abroad several years ago, I instantly realised there is so much more to life than Ireland and this country means nothing to me. Another time was I decided I was prepared to kill another person, I am perfectly prepared to kill in self defence of my self, family or property.

I'd tell you my defining moment, but you would either laugh or kill yourself.

I'll be ****ed if I'm going to have people laughing at me.

One time, I lost my temper at a friend. Lost it really, really badly. Over pretty much nothing. It was then I made a conscious decision to try and change. So I started working on my personality, addressing issues, and trying to make a change. Three years later, another friend told me he had seen a huge change in my personality and attitude and I had become a lot nicer a guy to hang around with. So that moment I lost my temper. That was a pretty big moment in my life. And one I don't regret.

When I got my first proper job. Id got the college degree etc but really wanted to do something with myself so when I stumbled on a fantastic job, I thought I had made it. Sadly I had not made it but it did change my life.

Moving out of home/away from Ireland.

It was a great growing experience for me and I'm a much better person for it. Unfortunately, I've had to come back for another year but the glimpse I got of life beyond these shores assures me I can find a place I'd be happier in and that I don't have to settle for Ireland.

It sounds stupid, but it was meeting a banjo player in Dublin (the Hilton hotel) last February.

Before that, though I'd been into folk music, but suddenly traditional music just seemed brilliant.

Eventually bought myself a banjo, got involved in the local comhaltas and found an amazing, vibrant community and have made some good mates.

Best thing I've ever done yet, and it's great I can pinpoint the moment where I knew what I wanted.

The decision to drop out of college first time around. It was regrettable in some senses but the nasty repeat fees forced me to put an awful lot more work when I returned getting me a 1.1.

When my friend died by getting hit by a bus, it made me realise how short life was and how it could be taken from me at any moment. I decided then to just go out and do things and say yes more. (I was very shy when I was in my late teens). Totally changed me as a person.
