How realistic do you think the prices listed on carzone are?

I mean, how overvalued do you reckon the cars on there are? 10%...... 20%???

Depends on the car and the seller. Id say more sellers put cars up knowing full well they will get at least 10-15% less than the asking price.

They're not really, when you look at the cost to import.

So if I was looking for a car; and I knew I had (say for argument's sake) €10,000....

I could afford to go and look through the listings for cars advertised around the 12K - 13K mark?

It all depends on the car. If it is a popular car, the dealer will get asking price or very close to it. But if you are looking at a car for 12k that the dealer can't shift and you wave 10k in cash in front of him, there is a good chance he will take it

You could chance your arm, sure. Depends on if youre paying cash or trading in as well; dealers tend to have a lot more leeway with prices when its a cash sale rather than a trade in.

Youll have better luck with some dealers than with others. Youll be lucky to get a car for €10k thats being advertised for €13k, but certianly up to €12k chance your arm. All they can say is no ;)

Example, my car was advertised at I think €8450 and I got her for €7500 in a cash only deal. That was this time last year.

not really overvalued any more. There's lots of deals around!

Thats true there are, but its still very much a buyers market, so theres no harm in bargaining and in starting in with a lower offer. Like I said, worst they can say is no!

I know it's one of those questions to which there's no definite answer!
