Why is "trans" listed under "How would you describe your sexuality?" Sheesh!!! Trans is a gender identity, not a sexuality. You can be straight trans, gay trans and bi trans.

    Seems very badly worded alright

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I just hope it isn't due to ignorance, but given the reaction I've seen in some of the LGB "professionals", it really wouldn't surprise me. :(

Apparently LinC had a meeting with TENI in the not-too-distant past, at which they were told that trans isn't a sexual orientation. So either the message didn't reach whoever drew up the survey (indicating bad internal management and communications practices), or they simply couldn't care less.

It reminds me of the whole Galas awards thing. I was at the awards last year with a reasonable trans contingent, and we were completely sidelined (to put it mildly). I complained in a letter to GCN, which was published, so I expected things to be better this year. Alas, no - the sidelining of trans on their web site was repeated this year. I had to actually hit someone in the NLGF with a clue-by-four before it was changed.

Aaaargh! I'm sick and tired of being marginalised in a marginalised community!!!

The strange thing is that lesbians have been amongst the most accepting people in the community. Which is what you would expect, given their marginalisation within LGB.

On behalf of L.inC, we would like to sincerely apologise for the misrepresentation of Transgendered people under the headline 'sexuality' in the L.inC survey. It was intended to read Trans (who identify as Lesbian or Bisexual). Unfortunately upon proof reading, we didn't realise the brackets were left out. Kind Regards, Toddy Hogan (on behalf of the L.inC staff and steering group)

I've never heard the word "Trans" being used in the sense of "either/or". Imo, it means transgender or transsexual.

It still wouldn't have made sense in the survey though - I think you would have been better separating out the questions on gender identity and sexual orientation

So you want to know the relative mix of bi and lesbian - EXCEPT for trans people? You don't care about our sexual orientation - just our gender identity?

What if my identity as a bi person is stronger than my identity as a trans person? Should I answer bi or should I answer trans?
