    Hey,

Was doing some online shopping last night on "Al*at" and was just after giving my visa details on a secure Barclays server and then the next page comes up still on the Barclays server saying that your bank wants you to confirm details (or something like that) to authorize your card for future online use...

They wanted to know the security code, date of birth and credit limit...

I thought it strange and backed out of it straight away and said i'd use a 3v card instead...

So now im wondering has this happened to anyone else??

Was it Verified by Visa by any chance?

There was a visa symbol and aib symbol there and a link to terms and conditions...

I have never seen a Verified by Visa page ask for security code, dob, and credit limit. That last criteria would flash a serious red flag for me personally.

The verified by visa (complete with AIB logo) page usually asks for your security password and that's it (assuming we're thinking of the same page)

    Edit: AIB linkage

if a password hasn't been set up, and you try to create one, it asks for your DOB/Credit limit.

From AIB themselves? Ok, in fairness it's been that long since I set mine up I'd forgotten, but really don't remember having to specify the credit card limit given I set up through AIB with an issued card.

Anyway, my bad. Ignore me then Glenview.

When you set up VBV for the first time it will ask you all of these, so as to confirm your identity.

AIB do use it, and any website that is enrolled will ask you to register for it. You can skip it for a couple of times, but eventually you will be forced into registering for it.

Calling into the bank may not be of much use, as they don't deal with the credit cards themselves, and may not know the procedures. You need to contact AIB credit card services.
