    http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/08/08/zach-gilford-off-the-map/

Zach Gilford is traveling a long way from Dillon, Texas for his next TV gig.
The ex-Friday Night Lights QB is joining ABC’s Shonda Rhimes-produced medical drama Off the Map as a series regular.
Gilford will play a plastic surgeon in the South America-set drama, which is slated to premiere at midseason.
“The character is still being written, but I’ve heard him described as kind of an all-American frat boy,” says Gilford. “[Map creator Jenna Bans] told me she loves FNL, but wants to distance me from that role as much as possible. [Something] that excited me.”
This isn’t Gilford’s first time appearing on a Rhimes series. The actor guest-starred on Grey’s Anatomy back in season 5. “I didn’t have any direct contact with Shonda, but I have watched Grey’s since the beginning and I’ve also seen a little bit of Private Practice,” he says. “Her work speaks for itself.”
Gilford’s casting comes less than two weeks after news broke that Map star Enrique Murciano had been dropped from the show for creative reasons.

I like Zach and he is a great actor (as seen especially in Season 4 of FNL) but isnt he a little young to play a plastic surgeon?

FFS!...more Grey's bs for the 30's and sexually frustrated crowd!

The only thing that annoyed me about Flashforward being cancelled was that this crap got an order. I can just imagine the beautiful doctors maintaining elegantly coiffured locks on the no doubt hot and humid island this is being set on. Shonda will have her own chick network at this rate.

And how many of the shows we see you talking about are either targeted at teenage or adult women? There's no point in getting any deeper into it.

That's not really a valid argument to make, Greys and it's ilk are very different to the tween type shows i watch.

Off the Map may seem like Grey's Anatomy in the jungle, especially with executive producer Shonda Rhimes attached. But series creator Jenna Bans tells TVGuide.com that the show will set itself apart.
    How? Jungle medicine.

Map centers on three doctors, portrayed by Caroline Dhavernas, Zach Gilford and Mamie Gummer, who venture to South America to work at a clinic with less than hospitable surroundings and a natural lack of resources. "Here, it's 1952: You don't have high-tech, you don't have big pharma, you have your brain, you have your instincts," Dr. Ben (Martin Henderson) explains to the new doctors after he punches a guy in the face to act as anesthesia in the pilot's opening moments.
"From the first frame of the show you see that this is not an environment we've ever been in before in terms of a medical show on TV," Bans says of the new series, which films in Hawaii.
"They always have to improvise and use what's available to them," she adds. Watch for coconut juice to serve as "blood" in transfusions, for tree sap to demonstrate healing powers, and for insects to cure gangrene. "It'll make for very, very different medical cases than you see on those other two shows."
A perfect example of the different type of cases you'll see in Map is one inspired by last year's Chilean miners rescue. "That's a funny example of something that probably could have worked on any of the shows, but just because of the particular boundaries of our show — we actually get to go into the mine, which the doctors on Private and Grey's can't do as easily — we snagged that one. It's going to be a really good episode."
While the series will focus on the unconventional methods used in medicine, it will also delve into the lives of these three not-so-perfect doctors. "They're not necessarily the heroes you see on Grey's and on Private," Bans says. "They're not doctors who are at the top of their careers and are the top of their field. They're people who are really, as we see in the pilot, messed-up and are coming down to this place to give back, but also to start over in their personal lives."
The pedigree for Map is certainly there — Rhimes is executive-producing with Betsy Beers, who comes from Grey's and Private as well — but Bans says the show speaks for itself. "People will definitely come to the show because they're fans of Shonda's and they're fans of Grey's and Private. That's great because we definitely want to take advantage of that audience, but once the show starts airing, it stands on its own," Bans says.
"It doesn't become just a relationship show. We definitely have a good balance between that action-adventure medical component and fun relationship stuff that's going on."
Off the Map premieres Wednesday at 10/9c on ABC.

I give it a chance especially for Zach Gilford (as said before he was great in FNL)

Jason George is playing Bailey's love interest in Grey's Anatomy and he is also on this show

I saw the first 25 mins, i was close to sticking needles in my eyes...Grey's Anatomy with bugs, set in the jungle...ooh wait, the beautiful island of Hawaii. Once i saw they had a club/bar/watering hole that was it!

FFS!....a club with music in the middle of the jungle??????....and that weird wan from Wonderfalls was in it. Rachele Lefevre....lol, she had 5 seconds of screen time!!

It's woeful stuff, Zach Gilford is WASTED on this, his character is a jumped up preppie, he acts like a kid, rich kid who sailed through med school on his daddys bank roll.

None of the girls are especially hot + they are ALREADY setting up relationships and random hookups, ugh!
Can't wait for Shonda to setup with Grey's and PP crossover episodes if Off The Map is in ratings trouble...... [sic]

Mamie Gummer who plays Mina is Meryl Streep's daughter

FFS lost my post because I logged in in another tab
I'll go for the tl:dr version this time.

Just watched the pilot there now, thought I'd give it a go because Gilford is in it.
From the viewpoint of someone who has never watched or been interested in any of that Greys/Private Practise/ Er crap I thought it was fairly decent.

It'll be going on the download list anyway for a few more episodes to see how the characters develop. :)
more Grey's bs for the 30's and sexually frustrated crowd!
Well I'm not in my 30's but...... :o:D

I take it from the lack of post or replies that I'm the only one who is still watching this. :o
Three episodes in and the numbers have fallen again.

    The only negatives that I have are;
The impending and inevitable relationship between main doctor and new little miss perfect brunette doctor.

    And the sub standard writing.
The actors do a good job with what is given to them. But if it doesn't improve then this show is history.

The majority of the characters are decent enough, but they need to cut out the Lily/Ben romance and draw back on the weird and wonderful extreme medical scenarios. The cast will give the writers time to sort things out which I hope will be enough to save it.

I do have to wonder that if Matt Saracen wasn't in it would I still be watching it though.
