As far as i can understand from publications on the subject, all lorry drivers are going to have to complete a CPC course on an annual basis. Wasn't it the law previous to this that only the owners of haulage companies had to do the cpc? Seems a bit of a bummer that you will have to pay for this when you only do it one day a week. I don't think the CPC course does an awful lot for road safety. (that's my personal opinion)

my other half is a lorry driver , he did one day last year and one day this year.... have to do it to keep your lorry licence unfortunately - me thinks its a money making racket

have a look at this thread

my understanding is that you need a cpc to drive professionally, if you drive for a living so to speak. If the lorry is your own and you are not using it for financial reward then you do not need a CPC. Another example is truck mechanics, they dont need a cpc as they would only be test driving or delivering trucks.

Not doing the cpc will not mean you loose your licence, it just means you wont be allowed to drive professionally. Its a minefield and not easy to understand. Hope this helps.

just driving once a week and someone said you have to have completed module 1 by sep 10th others say as long as all courses, 5 i think in all are done within 5 years your ok...its really all very vague ..
its €70 per course - could do better things with my money as things are tight at present..

by the way would that include a recovery vehicle for your own use

not sure, i think you might be as well contacting the RSA and get their response in writing so you know where you stand on the recovery truck as well as if you need to do a course a yr or 5 within 5 yrs.
