Question for the ladies

Another week, another not so nice question, for ladies, re bras.

Short mid week runs are no problem, but my LSR's are causing me bother. I've started to get horrible chaffing at the top of my ribs, from my sports bras (correct fit). I've tried plasters, but they end up falling off by mile 8 or 9.

Any of you have similar experiences, and if so, what works at preventing this?

God, the certain joys of running

Not a girl here (atleast last time i checked:confused:) but one idea might be trying body glide similar to chaffing of the thighs and armpits this seems to work effectively for them so it may be an option for your prob also

What bras are you wearing? I had problems on long runs until I started wearing Anita bras - even with bodyglide and vaseline.

yep bodyglide, sounds pervy , very effective though !

I can second Bodyglide. Rub it all around your ribcage where the bra sits (particularly the point where the clips meet) and you won't have a problem.

Thanks RQ, they are M&S high impact. The latest one, had a zip at the front (and it was recommended for long runs). Great support, but by God I paid for the zip part yesterday

Must have a look for that brand you mentioned. Did you buy in a shop, or online?

Thanks nachoqueen and lila, I'll have to purchase this bodyglide! Can you get it in sports shops, or online?

You can get it in running shops, it's usually about €12 for a stick.

Less Bounce is a good website for looking at the various brands of specialised sports bras that are out there. It may take a while until you find the brand that is best for you.

Lots of Vaseline works for me. Under the straps and anywhere bra chafes. I got some enelll bras from less bounce which I find great.

I got mine online ruby I get the Anita extreme control ones used to wear those m&s ones bit with any run over 13 miles I was in bits I don't even need bodyglide anymore.

I can second the Lessbounce website, its where I get most of my sports bra's now,you could be lucky enough to get your style when they have a sale on aswell.
Before I realised I was wearing the wrong size bra :o I became an expert in preventing chaffing! First I would slather vaseline all across where the band of the bra would sit and if I was going on a really long run I would get a length of medical wound dressing and use medical tape to keep it in place. It looked ridiculous but it worked!

I buy from lessbounce as well THIS is what I wear. Although, mine started chaffing last week I think I've lost weight off my chest :D

I think it is also worth mentioning to possibly take a smaller size with a larger cup. Or else wear ur current size as tight as you can. If there is any movement at all vaseline and bodyglide wont protect you for long. The key is to have it tight. You wont start suffering til nearly 15 miles if there is a small bit of movement but yoy will pay for it bigtime after that. Good luck.
Royce bras have a very deep rubberised band under the boobs and it is super for preventing movemnet. I find that the upper rim of the bra can rub at times though. But never the lower bit.

I agree. You need to make sure that you have the correct fit and that the band is as tight as possible to prevent movement. I use ShockAbsorber and also the high impact racer backs from M&S and have never ever had any chafing on any long runs. It also helps to wear well fitted running tops as an extra bounce prevention mechanism. Good luck!!

Shock absorber girl here, fairly happy with it and lashings of vaseline around the edges. Thinking of changing though - shock absorber still a bit too, ahem, bouncy for my liking. Might give that website a look over later on.

I have a shock absorber- if the house was on fire it would be the item of my running gear I'd save (I'd be able to run bare foot)
I bought it in a local shop on sale for 35- they are 24.30 on the less bounce website, great link:)

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've ordered a stick of bodyglide, and hope to have it before the weekends LSR. I tried another new sports bra last night + lashings of vaseline under the band, and even though I was still sore from Sundays LSR chaffing, the vaseline definitely helped! Yay to chaffing-free runs :D
