P45/Tax Cert

    hello :)

so was working away in my previous job there up until last week when i was no longer needed. I luckily landed a job less than a week after.

i need to hand in the usual pps no. photo ID, P45 / Tax cert.

now i only finished up in my previous job and won't be getting my P45 and wages until the end of the month (which is no problem... cut-off for payment was the 17th so it carry's over to next month)

but the problem is i don't have a P45 to give my new employer, but i do have a tax cert from about 3 months ago with my last employer on it.

is it ok to use that tax cert or do i need a new one or should i wait for my P45 ?

    any advice goes well here.

    thanks y'all

    Hi

Technically no as this is a cert that is only meant for your previous employer and not your new one.

You do need the p45 from your previous employer to avoid the possibility of emergency tax.

    Kind Regards

thank you for the reply there.

i actually wont be giving my P45 until the end of the month (wages / cut off points etc.)

is there any other way around this like my PPS number or something ?

    thanks again

    Hi

You can give them your PPS number and address but you will be on emergency tax until your new tax credit cert arrives for the new employer.

    Kind Regards

    Robbie,

If you ring the Revenue with your employers PAYE registered no (7 digits, one letter at the end), they can send out a Week 1 basis certificate to your new employer. This is kind of like a temporary cert that issues while you're waiting on your p45.

Once your p45 comes into Revenue, they can issue you with a cumulative (normal) tax cert.
