I`m using Vista and I`m trying to set up google mail through windows live.
I followed all the instructions I came across and when I go to check the google mail I get this.....

    mail.jpg

I had the google mail set up through it before but I just cant get it to work,
Is this asking me for the google usename and password, or what cause I`ve put in all the passwords/username`s I have, I thought it was this windows security and I disabled it but it did`nt make any difference, I also tried POP and SMTP, please help before I feck this laptop out the window...

Have you enabled POP access within Gmail?

Personally, I'd suggest going with IMAP rather than POP. I don't know if that's the source of your problem, but the GMail instructions for configuring Windows Mail also recommend it.

I have enabled POP and tried IMAP and both the same, then I came across some about clearing or unblocking the captcha in gmail, I`ve no idea what it is but it worked.Granted the layout in the live mail is a little different than before, the last time I had the gmail in its own kind of folder and not this way.

I gave up on it and bought Outlook Express. its way too convoluted.

I was moving from XP to w7 and i thought it was ridiculous.

Do you mean Outlook? As in, the mail client that's normally part of Microsoft Office? Because Windows Live Mail is supposed to be the replacement/upgrade to Outlook Express, so if you've bought Outlook Express it's unlikely to be legit...

On a separate note, if you dislike Windows Live Mail and wish you could get back to something like Outlook Express I would suggest having a look at Mozilla's Thunderbird.

Sorry - always get the two mixed up. It's legit alright. Bought Office 2003 when I bought Windows 7. Comes as part of the Office suite. A bit expensive, but I was so used to OE had to get it. Here it is on AMAZON

Ah, fair enough, I figured it'd be something like that. If you like the version of Outlook in Office 2003, it's probably a good idea to steer clear of Office 2007 unless you have to upgrade though - the interface is very different and takes a bit of getting used to.

Have come across this before (someone I know) keeps coming back to me about this and tbqh, I'd be more inclined and would suspect that because of the battle of the giants between Google and Microsoft, privately, Windows Live Mail is coded in such a way as not to engage with the google's servers for retrieving emails or that Google keeps "changing the protocol" somewhere hence getting the timeouts and Live mail prompting you for you to enter your password at regular intervals... it's rogue code in the Live mail - am very suspicious of that.....

Do yourself a favour - ditch Live Mail.... (it's a piece of crapware! :P) Use thunderbird from Mozilla which is quite friendly with google's mail servers and the problem will disappear - guaranteed...

Totally agree with the above poster, I have been using Thunderbird for years without any problems with Gmail, google apps mail etc. Also use IMAP if you need to access you mail from multiple devices.Thunderbird is also much more customisable with the addition of plug-ins. It opensource, free and good.
