Keeping your Mobile/Cell abroad

I'm moving to Canada next month for eight months and will be back at Christmas to see family and friends.

Anyway, I have a pretty good mobile as it is and rather than purchase a new one abroad I was hoping that I could merely buy a PAYG SIM over there.

    1) Is this possible?

    2) And if so, what mobile company should I buy said SIM from?

it's possible to use your phone over there assuming it's triband (which i assume it is given you describe it as a pretty good phone). make sure the phone is unlocked (this means you can use any sim card in it). you can request this code from your existing network (assuming you bought it from them and have topped up approx 150 or are on billpay).
