Dear god I've watched all of those except Darker Than Black :o I wouldn't include Dragonball Z, Naruto, Bleach or One Piece though, since they'll always do anything to stretch out a story to make more money, and DBZ is just **** unless you watched it as a kid :D
My favorite anime is Gungrave. Monster is also a great show which would make my top 20, along with most of the above.

Even though most anime is sh*t (and especially so for most things of the last few seasons), stuff I'd re-watch in a heartbeat includes:

    Abenobashi Magical Shopping District
    Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann
    Princess Mononoke
    FLCL
    Steamboy
    Black Lagoon (Sn.1 & 1st arc of Sn.2)
    Minami-ke
    Spirited Away
    Akira
    Porco Rosso
Kaiba (a must for any mature animation lover)
    Detroid Metal City
    Samurai Champloo
    Cowboy Bebop
Trigun (gets in there on opening theme alone)
    Paprika
    Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis
    Beating Angel Dokuro-chan :D

It's not a top 20 because I have seen that many that I'd recommend. Not in any order.

    5 centimetres per second.
    Anohana.
    The Big O.
Dragon Ball Z (The filler is the best slice of life anime ever. :pac:)
    EF A Tale of Melodies.
    Madoka.
    Outlaw Star.
    Princess Mononoke.
    Rainbow Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin
    Shaman King.
    Spice and Wolf.
    Haruhi Suzumiya.
    Toradora.
    Welcome to the NHK.

Unless Steins Gate has a terrible ending, it's on that list.

Gonna assume this isn't a troll, but neither of those are anime.

Regardless of it being a troll or not, anime is short for animation.

It doesn't matter if we assume people mean Japanese animation when they use the word, as long as they didn't say Batman Beyond is there favorite Japanese anime, they aren't wrong

The very definition of Anime in the rest of the world is Japanese Animation though. You never hear anyone use the term "American anime".

I'm probably being an annoying pedant, but whatev. On another board I saw someone rant and rave about how rubbish anime is and when asked what he'd seen he said "Avatar Airbender". :pac:

Each to their own. It's on 6 peoples list and the 2nd most repeated from all those lists after Cowboy Bebop though! :p

Decent show but waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much exposition in my opinion. Half the time is spent with people explaining the plot to each other.
