I was expecting to be working full time so I did not apply for a place in college and basicaly the job fell through and im looking to apply to get into a plc course. I know it is very late to apply but does anyone know if I would be able to get in one this late?

Id be looking to do something around media or sound, any info is much appreciated :)

There will be places in some courses, yes, but to be honest, media and sound are two areas that always have high levels of applicants.
It would be worth ringing around a few colleges, but in those areas, I wouldn't get my hopes up, particularly in Dublin.

Agree - many centres are interviewing but they are only offering places on waiting lists. Media and sound are two of the most popular areas for applicantions. It would be a good idea to get some experience in the area and start working on your application for next year if you are unlucky not to get a place.

I don't know if this fits into this thread, so I'm sorry if it doesn't, but just incase it does, if you applied through the CAO and got onto one of your level 6 choices could you chose to do a PLC course instead or do you absolutely have to take up the place? I made a terrible, terrible ill informed choice on my CAO application.

They can't force you to do a course that you are offered through the cao. Rejecting a offer does not mean you will be accepted into a plc course however. Many have alway done interviews by this stage.

What area are you hoping to pursue, and were do you live?

Absolutely no harm in contacting your local VEC or FE college. They don't confirm places until after the LC results, and some students will drop out later as they get offered courses in the second and third rounds of CAO, so you might get lucky.

There is no penalty for not taking a CAO offer - it will not affect any subsequent CAO applications.

When applying, remember to state why you are applying, and any related qualifications - shows you have an interest in the subject, as opposed to someone applying for the course to pass the time.

Fetac level 5 in Liberal Arts or Cultural and Heritage Studies, would definatley be a stepping stone towards your inteded pursuit of the above. Not sure were in Dublin either are held, I know its held in Drogheda (DIFE) but that the demand is high.

If you are successful particularly as a mature student your place is almost automatically certain in Uni.

Under 23's require 8 distinctions to proceed to Uni.

Search on sites like gotocollege.ie or qualifax.ie - are you looking for courses next year?

OK, well most of the places in the popular courses will have already been assigned, but you might get lucky for this year. I wouldn't be counting on it though, particularly if you want a 'linked' course that will allow transfer into a university course.
