    Folks,

Im looking for some advice. Looking to buy a Macbook for my wife, but am torn between the Pro and Air models. Shes a teacher so needs the applications the Mac has to offer.

Any advice over whether to go with the Pro or Air models?

There should be new Air models out next month so maybe better off waiting to see what they are like.

The dealbreaker for me on either (if i could afford one!!!) is the lack of optical drive on the Air...

You can buy a external optically drive, I think there is also some software its like a virtual optical drive where you can put the disc into another computer on the network and the MacAir can read it . Honestly I can't remember that last time I used the optical drive they seem like a waste of space ,the external optical drive would be very handy , plug in when you need it. The only concern I would have would be with the harddrive , they seem awful small , I know there SSD but I don't think the prices apple charge are justified. I always hear people saying that they will never use that much memory but a few months down the road they're buying an external HDD.

I'd say the mac pro would be more suitable its more robust. If you have the time maybe wait to see what the specs of the AIR are but at the moment the AIR's hardware is out of date
