Now that the Forum is six months old and the dust has settled, I thought sharing some feed back would be good.

There is a thread in the Electrical forum that has all the names of the regular contributors and what skills and area they cover. May be worth looking at something here along the same lines.

So, what feed back have you?

i think it has been going well. I have no real feedback. I am always nervous about listing skills. I always think it opens you up for negative critique..... even though the disclaimer should be followed.

i always thought there should be 4 areas...plumbing heating bathrooms and tiles....

However for the purpose of this board plumbing and heating can be put together and bathrooms and tiles can be put together and easy floar between here and DIY...

The thread would be stuck and locked. People would have to PM me to be added to list. Just like here.

Here's my suggestions for what it's worth, sorry for not getting here earlier.

I think a suppliers thread would be handy. I have asked a specific question here and received a quick answer, but it's still handy IMO to have a thread with the local suppliers listed up there.

Also when the electrical forum was set up someone suggested the need for a need a contractor thread. It think it was Mr Mag from his experience with the tea and coffee forum, we put it in more or less as it was (as it was admin approved) It does work, every now and then someone asks to be included on it.

The trouble with it is that some of the posters who ask for their name to be added to the list never give advice, while some bust a gut to help out and answer questions, with that in mind it might be something you want to stay away from but over all I think it works as some sort of tiny pay back for the guys who help others.

    Great forum lads well done.

    Thanks for the feedback Stoner.

Yeah, It would be open only to regular contributors and I would kick it upstairs for approval.

A suppliers list would be useful as most people won't be aware of local suppliers until they need something.

    Great forum IMHO:)

In terms of forum rules this is the one which needs loads of TLC

"Any threads naming specific companies/traders will be deleted. Exceptions to this will be at the moderators' discretion."

The problem it poses is that if someone asks, say, about a retro solid fuel stove chimney solution and the OP seeks a view on the shop suggested solution of double skinned SS.

This happens s quite a lot on boards.ie and depending on the forum u get banned for posting an in-post suggestion: the requirement is for a PM only.

This, IMO is a bit draconian as the benefit of the answer is lost to the wider www and one can be stuck with a load of repeat PM's.

I have had loads of grief on C+ P on this issue, resulting in my no longer contributing thereto as the modus operadus is Mods Rule OK, regardless:)

    Keep up the good work

ps I know why such a rule exists but it needs TLC

I think we have the right mix here. Nearly all the regular contributors have at some stage advised on a location of supply and it has stayed. If I thought it was a shill I would bin it.

And thanks for bring my attention to the CO cooker problem, with over 50% of the appliances still active, it really is a problem.

    On a few other points.

It would be great it we had a tech area, for professionals to question stuff. for example, if you are stuck on a job and need to bounce ideas around. Lets face it, the most experience professionals don't know it all and can get beat (temporarily) now and again.

On a personal note, I am happy with how it's going, great contributors from different professionals within the field, most of ye I find extremely interesting and knowledgeable. When the forum started I didn't want any in fighting and posters trying to out do each other, I am glad that didn't happen and the one or two who rocked the boat fell overboard. The forum probably needs another Mod which is some thing I am looking into.
