vista user profile will not load

this morning when i turned on my lap top and typed in my password to my user profile nothing much happened,the next thing i got was a caption saying ''preparing your desktop'' and then i was directed to a temp profile,
i also go a warning saying ''that the user profile wasnt loaded corectly'' and also to see event log for details or contact administrator,now i done a wee bit of research but im not to up on computer jargen and im not willing to chance what im beening told to fix the problem in case i do somthing wrong,
could anyone tell me what will i have to do to fix this problem,or is there a fool proof fix that i can do myself,

I've come accross this a fair amount in work, this is the solution in nearly all cases. It's straightforward enough, but does involve poking the registry.

I agree with Blowfish on that solution. It has worked for me in the past also.
