Spent the first proper training session with the new rifle today. It's lovely to shoot. First two cards out were 387 ex 400, in Dublin Rifle Club's usual psychedelic light conditions and with no wind flags. I'm happy out with that. We won't talk about the last card. Suffice to say the score was still over 570. :p

How find you find the more rounded fore-end profile?

It's pretty damn tough on the hand, I have to say, but being narrower, it sits nice and flat and lets me shoot without a cant. Since the position is simpler, I can shoot faster with fewer worries, so the extra pressure on the hand can be offset that way. The stock itself is an awesome piece of design. It's a shame Anschutz didn't release it ten years ago. They'd have rendered just about the entire rest of the market obsolete.

Dude, we were out in WTSC today and herself was telling Geoff I was to be sent out there twice a week.
We're talking about a girl who gives a set of sights as an engagement present and who's tried archery and target shooting herself just for fun :D
Nya nya nya nya nyah! :D:D

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooomaybe.
    :D
Still, that means Kuortane in December, Bisley in February and maybe Intershoot if the scores come up.

Plus, it'd mean me going to a gym so she figures it's a win-win :D

If you get yourself to the range, anyway! All plans are good, but none of them are worth anything until large, stupid looking flat soled boots hit the firing line! Drag your smallbore out of retirement and we'll see whether you've found the barn door yet.

The smallbore might be a problem. From the new job, I'll be 30 mins from WTSC on the new M3 (we drive the route today to time it), and I'll be 30 mins from home there anyway, so I might as well tootle out for an hour's training, it'd be silly not to ;)

But finding a convenient smallbore range wouldn't be so easy. Midlands is still a bit of a haul - in fact, there's not too many ranges where you could do 3P 50m stuff in Ireland which aren't a bit of a haul. So I might just stick to airgun for the time being. I'll have enough to do just to get those scores back up from the 550s again.

I can shoot some prone in DURC allright, but 3P? Not too likely :(

Once you're back shooting regularly (daily is practicable, by the sound of things) we'll see what comes together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

I don't think it'll be daily (not yet anyway), but two/three times a week might well be. I've to finish rebuilding the cheekpiece (drilling into african blackwood is a complete pita, by the way, and finding and fitting M5 t-nuts is even less fun) and get through the first week in work and find my legs there; but I might be back out to WTSC at the end of the week with the pistol to try the new frames allright. And then we'll see where we can take it.

Just on the subject of Kuortane, I believe we received a couple of offers of training venues while we were in Munich. The US offered us pre-World Cup training in Fort Benning next year and the Germans offered us coaching in Wiesbaden at any time :)

Don't have any details other than that, but it sounds good.

That sounds pretty excellent, particularly the Wiesbaden bit (I've got exams around the time of Benning). That's also where FLOYDSTER shot his 600 a few years ago.
