World Wrestling Entertainment has signed Ring of Honor champion Tyler Black a contract, according to multiple sources within the company. At least one WWE source has indicated that Black will be starting officially with WWE in September. I believe Black will be signing a developmental deal, but I don't have that 100% confirmed.

Black, 26, has been with Ring of Honor since 2007 and won the ROH championship in February 2010 from Austin Aries, He is also a former ROH Tag Team champion.

Black has several title defenses scheduled for September, including the 9/11 Glory by Honor Internet
PPV, where he will defend against Roderick Strong.

ROH owner Cary Silkin issued a "no comment" when contacted this morning about Black signing.

He might be on Season 3 of Nxt

Didn't see this and posted it in the news section. My bad.

Big loss for ROH if it is true, especially if Richards does indeed retire as he said he would.

He's only 24 and could be an absolute star if they use him right (and keep him called Tyler Black, cause it's an awesome name)

Good luck to him - he's got a decent look and moveset and he has a dcent chance of doing well for himself.

Can't understand why they wouldn't sign the likes of Claudio and Hero first - much better all round workers.

I really, really hope that Tyler doesn't end up on NXT- he would do terribly in that situation I reckon.

Interesting signing. A couple of years ago I would have said he was tailor-made for them, (aside from the weak promos), but i dunno. I guess we need to see whether he can condense his matches down without losing what makes him effective.

If it's true, best of luck to him.

WWE sources are claiming that they have signed ROH Champion Tyler Black to a contract, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com. ROH owner Cary Silkin declined to comment on the matter when he was reached by Johnson.

Powell's POV: Black recently indicated on his Twitter page that he had a big decision to make. I was told recently that TNA made Black an offer as well, but it sounds like he's WWE bound. Black is a talented young performer with a bright future, but he has not been the most popular ROH Champion around. Nevertheless, losing Black in September and then Davey Richards to retirement at the end of the year would be a significant blow to the company.

Only posted this because of the interesting bit that TNA made him an offer aswell. I dunno, I've never been too impressed with him, not that I can claim I've seen any of his best stuff, but I've never been blown away with him. He's good, but I never thought he was great. Good luck to him though, he's certainly much better than most of the NXT bunch

Black is great in the ring but i can't get behind him because I don't care for his character at all. There's no edge to him, just a bland guy. Really very solid worker though.

I'd love it Davey Richards went to TNA :)

Whats this about Davey Richards retiring?

He's claimed (and apparently is going to follow through) that he will retire at the end of the year.

Just reading it now on google.

Jesus big loss for the indies.

Not sure how that escaped my notice. My interest in PW really isn't what it used to be.:(

He has a good look, but I really have never gotten into Black. Never felt his offense made an awful lot of sense. He will need a decent run in developmental if he is to make it in WWE methinks.

That said, I think my views on him are tainted by that awful match he had with Nigel at Take No Prisoners in 2008 which was being hyped as a match of the year contender. I hated that match beyond belief.

His match with Davey at Death Before Dishonor this year was really something else. The problem in WWE for him however will be that he won't have 30 minutes to build a terrific match.

I think that Black's pretty polished actually but i know what you mean about developmental. I think if anything though, he would need to work out what to eliminate from his repetoire and make it more digestable for TV. Sometimes there's alot going on in his matches.

I loved the Take no Prisoners match.. he was a fantastic underdog!

If it's any consolation, he also claimed last year that he was going to retire!

I don't really see as much in Tyler Black as I did in Danielson or Punk. The guy is destined to be miss-used IMO.

But it just kept going and going. Far too many near falls. It was just annoying by the end. For me, it made Nigel look a bit weak rather than make Tyler look plucky. Hated it. I even re watched to see could I get anything second time round and no.

I dunno- i guess it depends when you saw it and how much of his reign you'd seen at that point. In context, it fitted in with where both guys stood on the roster, and I think most fans would disagree with you and say it did exactly what it was supposed to. Fans still bought Nigel as champion the next day, but Tyler was immediately accepted as a contender.

There was one point I thought should have been it- and it made the last couple of spots anti-climatic for me.. but it certainly didn't ruin the match I thought.

Finisher over kill - blame Kurt Angle for this. All of it.

I've no doubt of this guy's wrestling skills; i worry about his promo-cutting ability; i've been unimpressed at his standard promos and general gimmick....

He's got the skill and the size, that should be enough to get onto WWE TV :) at least IC in the future

Looks like a tall CM Punk though!

Another blow to ROH it must be hard for them to try to create their stars when Tna & Wwe are pinching them & in the main using them badly bar Punk the rest haven't been utilised good enough.Joe,Homicide, McGuinness,Lethal, Danielson,Cabana & Gibson were all used badly for the majority of their post ROH Careers.TNA nor WWE respect the talent pool ROH produced enough.Who is ROH going to replace him & Richards with its becoming harder & harder for them to make any money.

The Wrestling Observer has confirmed that Tyler Black's deal with WWE is indeed a developmental deal. He is expected to drop the ROH Title within the next five weeks and start with WWE's Florida Championship Wrestling developmental territory in September.

As you pointed out ROH have been continually raped by WWE and TNA whenever they see fit; they're basically a free farming system for the big leagues. They've bounced back after the RF Child Porn scandal, losing Punk, Joe etc, then Nigel, Bryan etc; they'll keep making new stars. And then they'll get poached and they'll make more.

ROH have 5 weeks to tape as many stellar Tyler Black matches before he's out the door! Maybe they can convince Richards to stay another year. Maybe get some NJPW/DGUSA talent. Maybe Claudio Castagnoli will get bumped up, I love him. He's very European. Maybe Chris Hero too.

I hope he joins Jack Swagger and makes a tag-team basde on lisps.

They could spit in peoples eyes as a distraction yet never get DQ'd over it since it's a medical thing.

...I think Kevin Sullivan just possessed me there.

ROH World Champion Tyler Black has reportedly agreed to a WWE developmental deal. The belief is that he will go to Tampa and then the next season of NXT, since they're looking for fresh talents for the show.

More like the Verbal Punchbag for Michael Buzzcut Cole than a fresh face.Talking about these internet fans,I think wwe should respect internet fans more they're probably the only ones buying the ppv any more judging by the numbers. Can't imagine all the kids who like Cena buy the ppv's.
Roderick Strong had a dark match for Tna last nite.I read a few days ago(can't remember where)that Tna wants to sign some ROH regulars,if thats true ROH is in trouble in the long run.

It looks like WWE are actually following through on signing athletic people that have good skill rather than muscle heads. Great signing for WWE, bad for the Indies. Hope the guy can make an impact.

It's probably because there are not as many of the 'big guys' as there use to be. With their Wellness Policy, there will never be as many roided up guys in the E. and a lot of the naturally big athletic guys are going into MMA. After losing so many stars in the past couple of years they know that they need to make new stars and most of the guys coming through the indy's are smaller (and usually better workers).

I hope your right not going to hold my breath yet cause Bourne has been completely buried since beating Jericho.Hope they push athletic guys but i`m always suprised when wwe pulls a push from a talent all of a sudden despite them doing nothing wrong its happened Kingston,McIntyre,Bourne, DiBiase,Ziggler,Morrison and even Swagger to an extent lost the title and last week he wasn`t even on on Smackdown.I`m not saying all those are top talents but many of them are lost in the shuffle now after getting pushed.
