Clutch Question

Took out a Renault Megane for a test drive and i'm very interested in buying it. The only thing i noticed is that the clutch has a high biting point. I've driven plenty of different cars but never remember a biting point over about the half way mark, this is about 3/4 of the way up.

Is this a sign of anything bad? I'm pretty sure that i'd get used to it but from a mecahnical point of view has anyone had any experience with this bad or good?

I'd say the only way to know is to take a similar Megane for a test drive and compare.

Generally biting point rises as clutch wears. This would mean is your case, clutch is partially worn.
Depending on clutch system design, there could be other causes but most likely it is prtty well worn.

That's good to know, besides the biting point the gear changes where smooth up and down.

As others have mentioned, a high clutch is normally a sign of wear.

Cheers for the replies, any idea how much it would cost to replace the clutch on a Megane? I could try use this as a bargaining chip and negotiate a different deal with the seller.

Clutch replacement is around €450 from an indy I think.
