what are your views on the recent surges in wheat barley prices? Although there has been poor harvests in eastern europe and parts of russia I have heard that the overall world stocks would not be down much at all. Therefore is this surge merely speculator driven or are the futures markets telling the truth? seems to me that they should settle when speculators lookingor a quick buck leave the room! I certainly hope so!

Wheat went limit up on Thursday.

It went limit down on Friday.

At the same time, you would be a brave individual to short that train as a small time investor.

The economist had a decent article on the increase of wheat rust across Africa in recent years

I know its not an influencing factor on this latest wheat saga but does make an interesting read. Then again it is slightly sensationalist in tone to a degree.
