2001 Volkswagon Golf Car Alarm

    Hi,

This question might come across as very stupid and highlight my total lack of knowledge when it comes to cars but this has never happened to me before, so here goes:

I have a car alarm fob that I use to centrally lock the car and activate the alarm. Last night my car alarm went off and because I was away from home and I don't have a spare key, no one was able to turn it off. I'm presuming the car alarm continued to go off until the alarm died.

I tried to open my car this morning using the key fob but nothing happened. I was able to get into my car by just using the key, but when i tried to turn on the ignition nothing happened, none of the icons even lit up on the dashboard (which they would usually do if the car alarm was dead)

Is this just a case that the car alarm has emptied the battery? I have no problem jump starting it if that's all it will take to resolve this (Luckily this is one area where I do have a bit too much experience :) ). I'm worried though that its more than this and that maybe if its the alarm battery (if there is one) in my car is dead and that that's a totally different matter. I have a mechanic I deal with but would hate to ring him on a Sunday so any advice in the meantime would be much appreciated.

Your alarm battery is just a backup for the main, it's likely that the alarm has drained the car and alarm battery. Also chances are if you jump it the alrm is going to go off again. Do you have a little key for your alarm to switch it off manually?

All i have is the car alarm fob that I use to lock the car and set the alarm. If I jump start it and the alarm starts to go off again would that turn it back off?

I'm just worried about not being able to turn it off again if it goes off as I can only imagine how annoyed my neighbors are after last night.

Is the battery good in your fob? If it is then it sounds like the car isn't reading it for some reason and may need to be recoded

The alarm drained the battery, jump it and it will be fine.
