In today's Sunday Times there's an article on Dublin band 'Cast of Cheers' who despite their woeful name, are making some waves.

They've released their album on Band Camp for free.

    Yes the name is brutal.

But they are pretty decent actually.

    Phantom likes 'em as well.

I did that album just before christmas. Great guys to work with.

The album exploded for them almost immediately they released it on bandcamp.
They have had thousands of downloads of it and have been gigging like mad since the release.
I hope they get to the next level and break out of the Dublin/Irish scene.

Well done Michael - as you say it's good to see them getting up and out - even more Kudos as they haven't taken the well worn route.

It should be noted that the guys were playing in Dublin for many years under A.B.A.M. and had a small but loyal following then.

Picked this up the other day,Pretty good, seems like the Free download worked for them, getting plenty of press and quite a few gig bookings.

    Fair play trackmixstudio, sounds excellent.

True, but a very different type of music, and that none of the Abam songs have carried into the new band...

    Yes the name is brutal.

Dont you realise that having a name that sounds really bad is the 'done' thing at the moment?

    Adebeshi Shank
And So I Watch You From Afar
    I'm From Barcelona

Really bad long band names are to now, what one-word names were to the Nineties (Blur, Pulp, Oasis) and 'The' names were to the early noughties.

    "Contemporise man!"

In fairness, you're never going to forget Adebisi Shank, and As I Watch You From Afar is a good name I think :p

But The Cast Of Cheers and I'm From Barcelona are a bit cringeworthy do you not think?

I assume your band is better so? Post up an oul' link to it there...

I never said anything about the bands, they're all amazing bands who are doing quite well in the local scene, I was merely commenting on the names.

Awful name but the name disguises the fact that they are a really good band from what I've heard so far!

Yeah, really I really like them, they're amazing live. I just heard a clip of them covering highway to the dangerzone from topgun!

    Sounds 80's-tastic!

I think about 8,000 downloads, when they started getting press attention.

It could be because people actually thought it was the actual cast of cheers (the television show)

I don't know - they have that awful, what I like to think of as, the snare of Whelan's

I'm not in a band, is that a problem for you? :D

I'd say a good few of you have heard the last single Family.

Think they are the band to watch of any of the Irish bands.

I believe they were playlisted by Radio 1 in the UK.

No but you're so vocal about how crap you think they are I assumed you had some alternative music of your own creation. I was wrong.
