Mature student grant information

Hi, I hope this hasn't been asked a thousand times already, apologies if it has.

I was interested to know if someone went back to college as a mature student would they be eligible to receive a maintenance grant if they had already been in receipt of a grant when they were in college first time around?

I can't seem to find any information on this. It's my understanding that the system only allows you to get the grant once, is this right?

In this case I'm looking for information on someone starting a new course.

Any help will come with great thanks!

Im gutted :( getting BTEA but the grant is handy to get, did u still have to fill out the forms applying for the grant? I only handed in all the documentation i needed with renewal form yesterday. I presume they sent out the renewal form as they still pay for our fees?

This is totally untrue - There is no maintenance grant ONLY if a student is receiving BTEA - in ALL other cases a student is still eligible for a grant

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I think you can only get the grant once but I would advise that you ring your local council to check

Was in college last year, they sent me out a renewal form. Are you sure i will get it this year? Its a joke the way they are stopping it anyway, they try to encourage people to go back to education and then they stop the grant

If you already started and you are going into second year then you will get both BTEA and the grant

If you are in receipt of BTEA you will also get the grant less 5%.

I am starting college this year and will miss out on the Grant, I completed a FETAC level 5 last yr, but I can tell you this, the number of people who abused the Grant system, i.e. not attending, no interest etc leaves me not in the least bit suprised considering the countrys current demise that this area is affected as it is.
