Judge Judy

I find judges in the district court can be pretty humourous and a bit impatient at times.

They don't come anywhere close to Judge Judy. I love her no nonsense style. Judges should be there to judge people and call it like they see it.

Here's my favourite episode where she destroys an ebay scammer by calling her an unfit mother who thinks having babies makes her intelligent!

If I were a judge I'd get through cut and dry cases in 5 minutes.

    I hate her.

It's not a real court. It's binding arbitration and the producers pay all monetary awards. She is a real judge though.

What I never understood was why people bother to argue their case. Even if you 'lose', the producer is picking up the tab and flying you home anyways

Judge Fahy in Galway is known for speaking out and giving tongue lashings when it's called for.

    Iron lady

1 or 2 judges here have been heard to speak dismissively of Judge Judy but also speak enviously of her earning power - apparently 25,000,000 ( yeah millions ) a year .
She was head of the Family Law Division in New York and gained a reputation for getting through far more cases than other judges. C.B.S. did a documentary on her that was widely aired and when she retired she was approached to do a few shows - it was not expected to be the hit it has become.

She calls it as it is. Her beef is that society has been infantalized and that everyone is a victim.
Personal responsibility has been jettisoned in favor of excuses to justify certain behavior.
You give birth to a kid, you have a duty to do your utmost to give that kid a chance in life. If you cannot afford to raise a kid, don't get pregnant.
You borrow money, pay it back. She's uncovered scamming of the Federal government by "not-for profit" foster agencies and is scathing about the use by people and relatives of kids in the foster care system in the US to make a fostering children a lucrative lifestyle choice.
I live in Clare where people running through classrooms mid-morning brandishing machetes and slash hooks got a slap on the wrist from the Irish judicial system. I'd like to see how Judge Sheindlin would deal with it.

The Judge Judy show is small claims arbitration with a Jeremy Kyle twist.

Gimme The People's Court any day of the week. Judge Marilyn Milian ftw.

Yet I have seen some of her cases where she issues legal warrants and instructions to police. I don't believe it is just arbitration.

    She is terrific.

But what makes her terrific is not just her no nonsense attitude. It is her deep knowledge and experience on the bench for two decades in one of the toughest courts there is, family court.

She sees straight through the BS and scares the sh1t out of some of the smart arsed snub nosed people that come on looking for tv exposure to impress their friends.... then go home looking like asses. Brilliant.

She was in Dublin last year in UCD I believe. I'd love to have shaken her hand.

Barking at and belittling people is not an admirable way to treat anyone. But it's arbitration for daytime TV viewers, not a court, so people are free not to sign up for it in the first place.

Barking and belittling is not her style. But like in any main court, people do sometimes come in for judicial criticism.

If Judge Judy got cancelled 27 old folks in my grandfathers old folks home would go on a riot the likes of which would make the Arab spring look like a scrap at an under 10's football match.

She is disrespectful and a bully ...... respect is a two way street and no way could I have anything but disdain (or worse) for her behaviour.

Respect is a two way street. So anybody who appears before her and tries to lie or bull**** will be responded with the same respect shown to her. Her default position is not to belittle or be disrespectful. She gives people an opportunity to be honest and straightforward. Its only when people turn up and try to lie and hoodwink that she hands them their ass. and rightly so.
