"I'll live with it but I'm devastated"...after losing a title fight which is what the loser of the UFC main event just said.

    or
I'm a runner up and it hurts really bad" again after losing a title fight which is what the loser of the UFC main event just said.

Human emotion and making the belt being the centre of everything. If wrestling promotions allowed wrestlers to show hurt about losing it might engage more people.

And maybe if the WWE and TNA start doing that they might sell a few ppvs.

The irony of it is that Sonnen is more pro-wrestling than most pro wrestlers ever will be.

Not an issue, but an awful lot here watch UFC as well. I for one had hoped to see the event later this evening. Even if you did not mention who, it was obvious who/what you were on about.

But as I say, its no big deal.

Sorry I never even thought of that. My bad. I even put the result in spoilers on the OT thread, despite them being in the title as well, I just never though of it here.:(

If its any consolation it was f*cking amazing and regardless of whether you think you knwow who won or not the finish was something else.

Back on topic though: when was the last time WWE/TNA promoted wrestlers that cared that much about winning or losing?

It happens sporadically but it's rare and getting rarer as time goes by. And then they wonder why no one buys their shows.

Its true they don't do it enough. You only see it in feuds like HBK v Jericho, where it is all about beating the other guy. Every match ahould be important, WWE have so much tv its hard to make every match important so they take the easy road.

But TNA could do it more as they don't have as much tv. But again its a tough ask when you have the same guys to work with week after week.

Something else to point out on that, is that this sort of serious, back-to-basics approach usually manifests from wrestlers who are in a postion to have an influence on creative. Rarely do writing teams come up with that stuff themselves it seems.

ROH used to be pretty good at this kinda stuff - making the title all important, making the storlyines around title matches based upon the match itself, wrestlers learning from previous bouts, empohasising stuff like the toll that defending a belt in a long title reign has on a wrestler's body - simple stuff, but compelling nonetheless. Their title changes always seemed so important as a result, I can remember them all quite vividly.

Agreed. Far too much "Hey i lost the belt; no matter, I'll get it back next time" attitude

Watching the main event of UFC 117, when's the last time we've heard the crowd mark out for 25 minutes in a wrestling show?

The Dragon Gate Six man or Joe/Kobashi is all I can remember tbh in the last few years.

Bret Hart used to show this kind of emotion. His feud with Owen was fantastic.

Also, Austin did an interview/promo before Mania X-Seven were he looked The Rock in the eye and said "I need to beat you Rock, I need it more than anything in the world" or something to that effect. It was very good all the same

I remember that. They used it in the Wrestlemania hype video for the match.

Even before the match Heyman said "Both men need to win and neither man can afford to lose". Making the belt the centre of everything with winning and losing having consequences. Simple but powerful stuff.

We saw a little bit of that with Orton/Sheamus last night but it could be done alot more often.
