Picking up Japanese Satellites

    So I'm about to put up a new dish, but I'm debating whether to stick it somewhere where I could freely rotate it and pick up some of the Japanese satellites.

    What I'm not sure of is, for some of the satellites that are listed (here, for example), where's 110 degrees East?

    I know the Astra Satellites are approx 20 degrees SE, which means, face south, and then turn 20 degress counter clcokwise. So where's 110 East pointing!? North West!? I'm sure that all satellites hover around the equator, so we should all point south. In which case, maybe I've to start looking East, and move 110 degrees clockwise, which'd have me looking 10 degrees south-west.

    Appreciate any brain contents.

    btw, I've attached an image of angles overlaying my house. I did this with my Dad's setup and it made it dead easy to find a satellite.

    In the UK you will normally not get a satellite any lower on the horizon than 54east. Even lower than 42 east is a struggle as the satellite becomes very low to the ground indeed.

    So basically no you will not get anything past that. Myself in Ireland (Far west) can barely get 42east, but then i can see upto 54 west with no problems.

    110E is -23 degree Elevation, the ground is in the way.

    In Dublin you'll struggle to get even 68E.

    Elevation of 68E at Dublin about 1.5 Degrees. Less than 10 degrees needs very large dish and clear view of real horizon. In London the 68E is slightly more possible at 5 degree Elevation

    A 57 E satellite just possible (8 degree Elevation) in Dublin. More realistic is 42E to 50W.

    A few satellites (Maybe 13E, 19E) have some Japanese channels, JSTV part time clear.

    Example NHK World TV
    Intelsat 9 58.0°W Americas
    I can "see" 58W but the beam points the wrong way (Americas) so no reception.

    Türksat 2A 42.0°E East
    I can receive 42E, but East beam can't be received west of Greece. Points Turkey/India direction.

    Hot Bird 6 	13.0°E 	Europe
    

    Conculsions
    1. Elevation should be more than 10 Degrees positive. Below 15 may need large dish
    2. The Satellite beam must point at you
    3. Need a big enough dish for footprint (power) and FEC.
    4. May need subscription, CAM or other decoder
    5. Some are DVB-S2. Needs an HD set box even for regular TV.
    6. Normal LNB on Dish is Ku Orthogonal . There are C Band, Ku Band and Ka Band and Circular or Orthogonal. At least 6 types of LNB to cover everything.
    7. C band needs much bigger dish for same signal and Ka needs a smaller dish for same signal.
    8. Feeds and Head End signals typically run lower power than footprint contours suggest, with also maybe 7/8 FEC to have more space. Both these mean a x2 to x3 bigger dish might be needed.
    Both these come from 42E locations
