I think it might be viable to have one thread regarding all NBA activity unless it is something really major like "The Decision" (oh LeBron )

I think most of the contenders are pretty much set with the main players in their rosters so I don't expect too much activity in the coming months.
It does look like The Bulls are going to sign one more decent player, talk of Fernandez at the moment, really like him as a player, would definitely bring something to the Bulls team.

I saw this on another forum the other day and literally laughed out. Pure genius.:D

Still 2 years @$4.8 million is pretty good for Tolliver. There's no way we would have paid him that.

I was kind of disappointed we didn't sign him because he did play very well for us and would be a very good bench player but as you said not at that price. Happy that he got that contract, he deserved it.

I'm very surprised nobody has snapped up Rudy Fernandez yet, he has had injury problems but he had a sick rookie season, I remember lots of highlights from him and he always plays well for Spain.

He has signed a one year veterans minimum with the Pistons, I think it is a good move by the Pistons, low risk with a potential high reward.

I really hope to see Fernandez at a good team, he really has been impressive since coming to the NBA.

Chad Ford just reported on his twitter that the Hornets, Rockets, Pacers & Nets are working on a four team trade that would send Ariza to New Orleans, Courtney Lee to Houston, Darren Collison & James Posey to Indiana and Troy Murphy to New Jersey.

That'd be a nice trade for Indiana if they can pull if off.

Seems to be a confirmed trade now!

Whilst I do think this is very funny, you know LeBron is going to be lining him up for some posterization when they play each other. Still funny though!

    Bulls discuss trading for Melo

Interesting. It'd probably be Noah, Deng, & fillers.

    PG: Rose
    SG: Brewer or Korver
    SF: Melo
    PF: Boozer
    C: Omer Asik? dunno.gif

I actually like them better with Deng & Noah. Melo's one of those "franchise" players that is good enough for you to think that's what he is, but not good enough to lead you to the promised land.

really don't like the trade if it involves Noah, would leave the team too unbalanced.

was reading an article today comparing Melo to Deng arguing that while Melo gets more points, he also takes more shots and efficiency-wise is not that different (not really saying that Deng is as good, but just that you don't want to give up too much).

would be ok with a trade like Deng/Gibson that where you're trading like-for-like, but Noah would be too much, and mess up the balance of the team.

I can't believe it's going to happen, around the time of the Lebron free agency, the talk was that Rose & Noah were the two untradeable players for the Bulls.

Yea, Carmelo is one of those players isn't he, you want to believe he has it in him to lead a team all the way but falls short in reality.
Savage player all the same and definitely worth going for if the right trade can be made but giving up Noah would be a massive loss to that Bulls team. Noah gives so much energy to that team and would be very difficult to replace.

I read an interesting article a couple of days ago about how the NBA is trying gain popularity in India. There's this 7 foot, 14 year old kid that supposedly has a bit of game, and is coming to a camp in Florida for young prospects.

If the game could grow there, it would be huge. I think we're going to start seeing the fruits of Yao & Kobe's popularity in China in the next 5 years, in the form of more NBA quality players that enter the draft, just as the European invasion happened about 10 years after the Dream Team in 1992. If they can tap into the Indian market, the same will happen there.

Great news though, not sure what to expect off smart, will be more defensive minded for sure though which will be a good thing.

Reports that Melo to the nets is a done deal, only waiting on the other smaller details of the trade to be finalised as it's a 4-team trade with players/picks/cash moving all over the place.

To be honest, I'm getting a bit fed up of marquee players ditching their teams - it's all becoming a bit too much like soccer for my liking.

Can't see how this is a good move for Melo going from a team that consistently averages around the 50+wins to the worst team in the league unless they trade again next summer for Chris Paul or some other player(s) of similar abilities....

Chicago would have been a better move IMO.....but hey, what would I know?!!

I suppose getting to live in Manhattan and play in Brooklyn in 2012 are an attraction, even if you have to send the next two years in Newark :)

The good thing I like about this move is it does allow for continuity after the Nellie era without making a long term investment. Smart has a year left on his deal so it allows the new ownership time to evaluate him as a possibility and also look for a long term solution if he doesn't work out.

Looking more likelier by the day that there will be a lockout next year.

BRI at the moment is 57% to 43% in favor of players from what I can gather so owners are basically looking for a bigger piece of the pie as they argue they will be operating at a loss if things continue as they are.
These figures are obviously disputed from what I have read, plus the size of the contracts being offered kind of contradicts some of what they say.
Its all about the money really and who wants more, don't know too much about it but I know the players don't need more and I am sure the organisations are doing ok, probably a lot of miss management with teams.

Would a lock out mean that players could potentially go to Europe for a year ?
I am sure they will probably sort it out, too much money at stake.

In on court issues, Yao looks in good shape for this season, really hope he stays injury free.
Was going to go to a few pre season games and get some decent seats as I presumed they would be cheap, boy was I wrong, rip off.

My only concern about Blake Griffin was whether or not he'd be able to regain his freakish athleticism. That pretty much settles that.

He and John Wall are gonna have a great competition for the ROY

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

Yep, he's had a few dunks, alley oops, flushes and blocked shots in the NBA Top 10 plays every time the Clippers have played pre-season. Some of his throw downs in college were just nasty, it'll be interesting to see him do that to more established pros.

On the Rookie of the Year, I think Wall will probably get it barring injury as he'll have the ball in his hands for more of a game (a la Derrick Rose* a couple of years back) than Blake Griffin will. Plus, the Wizards can only really improve from the disaster of the last 2 seasons - again similar to when Rose landed in Chicago.

That said, I think Griffin is a better player than Wall, and long-term will prove that.

*I saw Rose play twice (in the flesh) during his rookie year, against Boston and New York and to be honest, he didn't exactly light it up. He showed poor shot selection, seemed unwilling to pass at times, forced a lot of plays and missed a ton of free throws. He was very quick though and despite all the faults was clearly the leader of a poor Chicago team.
