Ordering research chemicals from abroad and customs

I'm ordering some products listed as "research chemicals" from the US. They are labelled as such to make them legal to purchase. I am not sure if this makes them legal to purchase here and was wondering if anyone knows. Also, what happens if they are found by customs? Will they be disposed off?

The situation is very similar to ordering marijuana online.

yikes...depends on what they are doesn't it.

you need to check before you do anything - if they are illegal and found by the authorities they will indeed be disposed of but possibly not before you have been prosecuted.

I think the Chemicals Act 2008 and statutory instruments made thereunder has the up to date lists of prohibited substances but best of luck ploughing through those without a relevant scientific qualification. That is presuming your 'research chemicals' are not prohibited under the Misuse of Drugs legislation.

If I were you I'd ring customs & revenue and enquire before you do anything.

Or the Explosives Act and relevant legislation.

I'm ordering a substance called clenbuterol. Strictly speaking it's an asthma medicine. I couldn't find any information about it's legality in Ireland, but I'm not sure where to look exactly.

Think I will give them a ring.

    Thanks.

Its absolutely nothing like ordering marijuana online. Marijuana is illegal. RC's is legal. See the difference?

Clenbuterol is 'Angel Dust'. It was fed to cattle prior to slaughter in the 90's to condition them. First cousin of Albuterol which is used to treat asthma. I'd imagine it shouldn't be too difficult to get it through. Just need to fill out some documentation.

I would have thought it would be subject to the rules that apply to importing medicines - i.e. illegal ?
