Parking on the day - Cork versus Kilkenny?

Hope this is ok to put here considering so many people will know Croke Park! I've been lucky enough to win tickets to tomorrow's match and am going to drive up from Cork. In your experience, is 9am early enough to leave (don't care too much about minor match) in order to get to Dublin to secure decent parking somewhere not miles away. Anyone have any insight on the latter? Is it just a case of throwing your car where you can (legally) or using certain areas or what? I'm worried I'll get up there and not have a clue where to land car!

Park at the red cow and get the luas. Its a nightmare trying to get back out in the car if you don't leave 10 mins early.

There will be queues for the luas too but believe me you will be much better off.

Hmm maybe but I head lot of robberies etc from parked cars there? I am thinking now of parking at Marlborough/Clearys car park (Q park I thin it is called) http://www.aaroadwatch.ie/parking/carparks_details.asp?id=41&aid=10

Decent rate for day and can get luas from there or walk, what you think?

Hey Paul after looking up maybe you are right. Can you tell me if the directions in this guide are correct (coming from N7)http://www.luas.ie/ul/424.pdf

I get the bus to Croker through the city centre and there is a temporary carpark at the corner of Upper Dorset St and Lower Wellington St everytime ive gone by. Never seen it even close to full altho its usually at least 2 hours before throw in (of course unless ive missed the curtain raiser but still always space).
Here is a Google Maps link to the area where they set it up. Its a bit of a walk from Croker but i dont think you will get anything easier any closer.

Thanks Fandango another maybe. But considering coming from Cork maybe Park and Ride would be best. I presume I can avoid having to actually go through the red cow roundabout to get to the park and ride?(thats what it appears to show on directions anyway)

Believe me its the best option, I've not heard of much theft there tbh but what would I know, I'm a bogger ;).
Just don't leave any valuables in sight, you don't even need a sat nav its M8/M7 all the way.

On approach to the M50 junction on the N7 keep to the very left lane, I think the road sweeps around to the left and back over to the park and ride like your link shows there.

Another option that I have done previously is go to Maynooth and get the train to Drumcondra. You'd want to check the times though.

I've done Maynooth the last 2 years and luas the 2 before that, but I'll try the luas again tomorrow as it won't be overly busy.

Last thing you want is to spend 1hr/90mins getting back out to Newlands X in the car before another 3/3.5 hours drive home.
    Especially when you've lost. :)

Maynooth train station was a sea of mostly Kilkenny and some Cork jerseys at 11 o'clock this morning and there was a special matchday train service to Drumcondra. Was brilliant. Out of Maynooth in 5 minutes on the way back. It's a great idea especially if you're coming form the west like we were today.
