Octavia reliability?

With all the Skoda fan boys here what is the story with Octavia reliability? I know they fair well with customer satisfaction but the fact that they share so much with VW, a company who is not rated well for reliability makes me less than convinced. Possibly looking to change, the Octavia ticks a lot of boxes (bar the pathetic short warranty) but a reliable car is paramount.

the word octavia does'nt appear on boards over and over again for no reason .
i run a ten year old octy 1.6 and have owned it for seven years and everything works.
apart from normal servicing which i do myself i have not had replace any part.

i have often thought about upgrading but when every single component is working perfectly and the car is worth a tin of beans i think well if its not broke.
i look after it well but still find it amazing that a ten year old car with over 100,000 miles has not needed any parts replaced.
    including clutch and exaust

The 1.9 TDi is not a great engine dynamically, 8v and now defunct technology make it noisey and peaky in it's delivery, but it is fairly robust alright. Not too many of them have gone too wrong.
However, the VW petrols were never spectacular in either their reliability nor their power output, refinement or economy.
For a petrol, look no further than Honda. Second to none for reliability, and while Skoda's are reliable, Honda move the boundaries much farther while offering much better engines in the process.

I'm on my 3rd one, an '08 Uk spec 1.9 TDi.

Never had an major problems with any of them, apart from the hazard light switch going (and messing up the indicators) on my old '02 model. A known fault on the Mk1's. ARB's could get a bit squeaky on them too.

I suppose the whole reliability thing with them is a cost/benefit analysis. You get a spacious, well built car, (that's supposedly more reliable that other VAG products), at a good price.

If you want supreme reliability, buy an Accord, IS200 or the others with a similar JD Power/Honest John/AA record.

    But it'll cost you.
