A relative wants to move to countryside, and have enough land to feed 2-3people an raise own animals , fuel etc. Also wants to build a small basic wooden house . How much realistically would it cost to set up such a place? The person is willing to do courses in woodwork and farming etc to cut the cost down of doing this.

No offence intended but its like asking how long is a piece of string!

Well first off tell them not to build a wooden house but build a strawbale one. Also try something like WWOOFing to see if the farming life is really for them. Can they get up at dawn every morning and work until night if needs be?

I mean, 'small basic wooden house'...? Where are they planning to keep the animals? The tools? The resources? The food? The fuel and energy systems?
