Tips/resources for new SC players?

    My friend was kind enough to give me a guest code for SC2. I've been messing around in Campaign on Casual mode (:pac:), and just vs the A.I in general. I watch some matches online, the odd video here and there but can't help but feel I'm missing something, or maybe more than one thing! :o

    I'm new to RTS and I plan to buy SC2 later on this afternoon. I can't help but feel my newcoming is a big factor in the reasoning behind why I am so terrible! I've read about macro and micro? And when it comes to hotkeys I don't really understand. For example ;

    I was playing a random online game, I was terran. So at the start I used the default SCVs to refine minerals. I then built 5 more SCVs at the Command Center, got one to make Refinery then had 5 SCV each on mineral and vespene gas. For example, it's so weird to me how I select a certain number of units. Like, I had all units on mineral and then decided "ok, now I want 5 to do vespene gas". So I had to choose each unit one by one, and had to select them while they were moving/refining! It just seems really awkward and odd, I must be doing something wrong, in terms of selection and time spent etc (I know this paragraph seems odd but bear with me)

    Then I really don't know what to do. I don't know any of the real strats or even basic combat/arrangement! I just build barracks and supply depots and put them wherever, and then I continue to train a billion units, while the SCV refine. For example, I kept building until I had a tonne of marines, marauders, and a few ghosts and reapers. I thought I was the **** lol

    As far as unit management in battle goes, I have a clearish plan of what I wanted to do, I wanted to send some units on an attacking move, trying to confront the enemy. I just selected all units and moved them all at once thinking I was gonna blow **** up, when I was decimated in seconds, and totally humiliated

    It's just me being new and not very exp, but I really do like the game and want to improve! If anybody has any tips or resources for new players, of any kind, I'm sure me and other newcomers would appreciate it a lot!

    You will get better. The fact that you are reading is a good sign already!

    SC is a game of seconds. You need to be on the ball ALL the time, fast fast fast. Find a build order on the net and try it out. build exactly the right number and in the right order. When you have a small force, harrass your opponent while you expand to a new location. Do that sooner rather then later. With a second base up and running you can pump out more troups faster. It sounds like the problem isnt about what you built but the race to build them.

    SC is a complex strategy game, dont be too hard on yourself if you get trounced. Get the game and play the SP and that will ease you into it. MP can be a dogfight most of the time :)

    DeV.
