They claim a direct lineage to the Shaolin Temple (no style can claim this without hesitance), they claim to be a Chinese style but are not what they seem.

Look at their uniforms - Japanese style gi? Grading systems? Belts? It's all of Japanese origin. Granted, there is a story explaining this but it hasn't been proven true or false.

The "Do" at the end of the name gives it away too. They have over 900 "kata" (another Japanese word) in their style, but no authentic CMA has that many.

Everything about them is fishy. Look at the history of the Shaolin-Do style. Pure lulz

Are they the guys who's head honcho claimed he has so much qi in his body that he once burned some kid with his hands?

Not sure. Haven't looked at the history in a while!

This is the guy who started it all:

I got it a bit wrong. He did some kind of training where he placed his hands in hot sand, then picked up his grandson without special gloves, killing him. http://www.shaolin-do.com/history.php (End of the first paragraph about Sin Thé)

AH yes! I remember now. You gotta admit, he'd make a fun drinking buddy (just hope he doesn't get into any fights!)

to be honest they seem a bit fishy to me too. its a pity. they train right by my house. I'd like to try kung fu but got a bad vibe

To the Original Poster, I have been doing Kung Fu at the Chinese Shao-lin Centre and have nothing but good things to say about them.I had tried other martial arts previously like WingChun with John O Riordan but that was costly and he seemed only interested in making money.Anyone who doesnt know anything about them I would suggest to go along and watch a class or two. This is what I did, to see what I thought and its the only way to know for sure. They teach use of weapons and Tai Chi also so I think it is good value.

I think its the same with any martial arts class that you are interested in.Go along to watch and see what you think of it.They dont mind you watching so go over and have a look
