Around 540 Delivered from amazon so this looks like a pretty good deal. Could be very good for someone wanting a complete set, has 4 hdmi inputs and 3 optical inputs so should connect to everything no problem at all.

I want it... But I can't justify buying it at the moment :( I'll have to stick to my shitty old LG surround for the moment...

Never used Ibood before. When would people expect this offer to be gone?

Unless sold out before hand. Most offers dont sell out anymore, but this seems like a decent offer so it might

Trust me, for someone not willing to go down the seperates route this is great value, plenty of digital inputs, active sub, ipod doc. It ticks all the boxes.

Just bought one. Looks like great value. Have been looking for a receiver and speakers for a while but couldnt justify spending €500-€1000. This looks like a the first good bargain I have seen on ibood for a while going by the price on other sites. Its €520 on elara.

    WOW! Great ibood!

Why is it a 7.2 receiver?

    Surely they mean 7.1

    Thought that too but:
    "2 x subwoofer out"

I'm don't know much about audio, so how does 2 subwoofers help? Stereo?

Unless your room in absolutely enormous i dont see why having two subwoofers would help audio quality, Mind you some people think the more base the better the sound system .

I can under stand how it may help the aesthetics of a room by balancing out the number of speakers (i like everything to be even).

7.2 is sub and centre speaker up front, two stereo front, two stereo side, two stereo rear, and one sub rear.

So there is a sub built in to the center speaker?

Will surround sound work with the hdmi cable from ps3, skyhd and xbox 360. I was reading about optical cables on other forums but are they required.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Man, that's a superb set for €300!

Can't justify it right now though! :(

AFAIK i know Sky+HD needs an optical cable, i need an optical cable for my box and i have HDMI. DOnt think it can pass DD through HDMI. PS3 and Xbox360 can though.

Are all the little speakers wired or wireless to the main speaker on this?

7.2 just means you can add a second sub if you wish

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,376 ✭✭✭54kroc

Here's the instruction manual for anyone that's interested.

Can anyone tell me if you can send 7.1 audio over hdmi?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,565 ✭✭✭Parawind

Generally a 7.2 reciever means you can have a 5.1 and seperate 2.1 system if you so wish connected to different audio sources.

So you could have a 2.1 in your kitchen and a 5.1 in your living room but both would be controled by the one reciever. Keep in mind that while the reciever is 7.2, its a 7.1 speaker set that is supplied with it.
    cork45 wrote: »

The reciever should be able to output any stereo source in 7.1 using Dolby Pro Logic IIz over HDMI.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,565 ✭✭✭Parawind

Actually i may have been wrong about that, I just read at the link below that there is no audio return channel for HDMI on that reciever.

    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1234506&page=2

There spec sheet says it does, though they might just mean it suports audio throughput to another device, rather then audio processing over hdmi on the reciever. So you would have to use an optical cable for the audio.

1080p video and HD sound through HDMI 1.4

I thought HDMI was supposed to carry audio up to 7.1, but I have never managed to get It to work between my PS3 and sony surround. I can only get 5.1 to work through the optical connection. But according to the manual optical only supports up to 5.1, you need to use the HDMI connection for 7.1.
The two subs sound usefull, if you can't centre your sub in the room you can balance the "boom" with a second sub. I know that base is not as directional, as tweekers, but I find in a small room it does make a difference.

How long is a piece of string? ;) Their delivery used to be terrible (6 - 8 weeks), but last two items I've ordered from them were delivered within a fortnight.

I ordered a surround sound system a few months ago from ibood and it took around 2/3 weeks to be delivered! Problem was it took a while to get shipped, once shipped was quick. But iBood did email apologizing in the delay in shipping

Wish I'd had the dosh for this. You can either have 7.1 traditional (L,R,C,SW,LC,RC,RS and LS) or 5.1 standard plus 2 vertical (similar to the cinema-only SDDS setup from Sony). Either way, a winning sound setup. Ah well.

Can't beat the race from phantom menace to test it out

I set it up last night too. Delighted with it. But two of the rear speakers (SBL and SBR) have very short cables so couldnt connect them. Also wanted to buy speaker wall brackets off ebay at the right price but these speakers dont have a threaded hole, just a hole to hang on. Any suggestions of cheap wall brackets? I need 6.

Just after setting it up this morning and also have the same issue with the cable length for the 2 extra rear speakers (and also the front right one).

Delighted with the sound quality so far though. General Sky tv through an optical cable sounds great. Also hooked it up to my blu-ray player for the U2 360 tour disc. Absolutely outstanding sound when playing the HD-master audio track.

    A bag of screws.

Mine arrived, all setup. Sub Woofer doesn't appear to work - all powered up and connected, light at the back. Test tone doesn't work :(

Can anyone recommend wall brackets for these speakers? Theres no threaded holes on them, just what I think is called a keyhole insert.

My last answer wasn't good enough? According to the manual, that's exactly what you're supposed to use.

Sorry forgot I asked already. Half asleep. And no, last answer wasn't good enough ;)
I want them angled properly because the TV is in the corner. If I just use screws they will be sitting flush with the wall and angled the wrong way.

Use a longer screw, directly into the point where the walls meet. Dont have the actual unit but have done this with a panasonic system and the screws work fine; very little weight there so should be easy enough. Failing that, I'm sure it would be easy to profile some wood pieces into triangular sections, mount them, then attach the speakers. Best of luck;)

You can get universal wall mountings, if they dont have ones with keyhole mountings, you could fix short screws/bolts into the bracket back plate to accept the keyhole fitting.
