Car Hire UK without Credit Card in my own name?

I will be travelling to the UK soon, and was hoping to rent a car at Manchester Airport (or nearby). I don't have a credit card in my own name, but my brother will be travelling with me, he does have a credit card and is willing to pay for the car hire.

The problem is, I have rang a few of the big hire companies at Manchester Airport and they are all saying the same thing - that the person driving the car (me) has to have a credit card in their own name.

Can anybody advise me of any hire companies that would allow me to hire a car in Manchester with my brother's card if the two of are present?

    Thanks

if he brings his license, let him rent the car in his name and put you down as another driver.

if you use travelsupermarket.com, you may be able to book in his name anyway. all that they will ask for at the airport is A credit card (doesn't have to be the one the car was booked with) as a deposit for fuel and insurance.

Thanks for your reply, but not sure that would work as he doesn't have a driving license!!

i'm pretty sure you'd be grand if you booked it before you go. i go over every week and have to hire a car for a couple of days. the credit card is really just so you can't do a legger if you bring the car back empty.
most sites when you book with them ask for the name of the person who's booking it, but then when it comes to paying, will ask for the name and address of the person on the card. i'm sure if they have a separate name and address for payment, then you'll be able to use your brother's card.
give it a shot now, and travelsupermarket will save you a fair bit.

I no longer have a credit card. From a German savings bank I have a Maestro card; it is a debit card. Last year in Ireland I enquired about renting a car. One and only one rental co. said it was possible.
    - It would have to be a small car
    - Full insurance CDW, Collision Damage Waiver would have to be taken out
This offer was once off and not a precedent.
As it happened I never took them up on the offer. I rented a bike locally.

You could ask if they can accept a Maestro or Girocard.
