This might be get more answer's in military but I thought i'd try here first.

Im just wondering is there any serving paramedics in the pdf on here and if so what is the process to get into the job entail and what's a day in the life like?

Obviously I presume you would have to apply as a cadet ect and go from there but how long before you could get into the medical corps and apply for a paramedic role?

Would there be many paramedics within the army?
Also do they get to do much or any 112 work?

Well all soldiers in the army must do your basic infantry recruit training, its been a long time since I've been involved with any recruits but from memory its about six month hard slog.

Then when your transferred to the medical corp you'll do your medic training (EMT & Ambulance skills) in the Curragh Camp.

For more detailed information re. medic duties etc your probably best off posting the question in the Military Forum - or check out MILITARY.IE although I couldn't find much for you there.

Regarding the Army turning out to Emergency Calls. I know that was practice in the Kildare region for some time, I'm unsure if it still happens.
Basically when the Naas area was stripped of resources or needed additional resources in the area, the ambulance in the Curragh Camp was often turned out to assist.

    Its still used.

There was also a member of The Curragh's fire brigade killed responding to a bogey call outside of the camp area - Sgt Jack Whelan (R.I.P.) died when his truck crashed enroute to the 'scene'.

OP, I think there's also a combat medic unit in Dublin although I'm not sure what their duties entail.

Personally if I wanted a career as a medic I'd go the civilian route, or if I was intent on a career as a combat/military medic I'd join the British Army.

War is the only proper school of the surgeon.
    Hippocrates

Do you want a job as a paramedic or as a army medic?

Any chance of an insight as to why the british army would be better choice?

With it being so hard to become a paramedic here I'm looking at it as a viable option, but in saying that I really have no idea of what it would entail.

Just something that came to mind when going through this thread. When I was spoke of when Naas Ambulance Control requesting assistance from the Curragh Camp, the Army have since replaced a number of their ambulances and the new ambulance is/was restricted to 55kph or MPH, either way a slow vehicle to be considered for an emergency response.
This resulted in grave concern which the Army Medical Corp expressed to the Dep't of Defence, of which appears to have fallen on deaf ears.
This was well publicised on a number of occasions through the national press.

Has anybody any update on this, have the army ambulances been de-restricted or is this still an ongoing concern?
