Potential Spanish Air traffic controllers strike.

Im sure many people know at this stage but in case people dont, air traffic controllers in spain have been balloted and have voted to strike for 3 days this month. No dates are confirmed but it is expected to be the 18th,19th and 20th.

Im flying to Tenerife with 5 friends on the 21st so may be affected by knock on delays etc. Very worrying, really hoping it gets sorted out. The Spanish gov and tourism board are furious. Its the last week before schools are back, and a time when a lot of young people go on holiday too. The gov have suggested they may get the military involved to keep main airports open.

Anyone else possibly affected by this?

Im only going by what i can find in news articles online but talks broke down on saturday. The unions are now to decide on thursday what they are going to do, if they decide to strike they must give 10 days notice, so the earliest they will be striking is the 22nd august.

I fly the 21st.....phew!!! Ill worry about getting back if it comes to that....

    http://www.gotimeshare.org/spain/00814-spanish-air-strike-update-august-2010

Just looking for information on this myself and came across this article dated today.

'Air traffic controllers vote to go ahead with 3-day strike starting August 18th but talks continue to try and avert union action
Image: Madrid CC by Luis Garcia Ryanair has asked the Spanish government to help ease the effects of the Spanish air traffic controller strike which, if it goes ahead, will start August 18th and last three days'

From reading here I thought they still had to give 10 days notice, anyone else know different?

Any more updates on this? I'm flying out on the 19th, so I assume I'm safe. :D

I read somewhere that they may bring in the military to take over some of the air traffic functions. This doesn't instil confidence with me! Surely they would not have the experience to take over these tasks in one of the busiest air spaces in the world.

think we will have to wait til thursday to find out any update, some reports say the strike is going ahead on the 18th,19th,20th others says its not decided yet.

    worrying times!
