    Hi,
I use Picasa 3 for editing- it does the basics for me- crop, b&w, sepia, highlight, shadows etc.
I have Photoshop Elements but haven't used it yet.
Can anyone point me to some good, easy online help/tutorials for Elements? I might as well make the jump now, otherwise I never will.

Bonus question- what is the best editing tool that is easy to learn?

    Cheers,
    Pa.

Picasa is an editing tool, and I think it qualifies as easy to learn. The problem is that it's not powerful.

The more powerful the program is, the more complex it will be, and the harder it will be to learn.

Photoshops elements is at least as much "more powerful" than Picasa as Photoshop CS5 is to Photoshop Elements... which is several orders of magnitude.

The closest thing I've used that combines the most important "simple" bits with a few of the most commonly used more-complex ones is Lightroom. The basics of Lightroom are easy to learn. (It does some more complex things that many people simply ignore.. and using those features takes some knowledge and skill.)

Hopefully someone does know some good tutorials for Elements. There are probably some available from the help system within Elements, and probably more available on Adobe's website. (not to mention that a fair number of the Photoshop tutorials out there that aren't for really advanced features & techniques are probably applicable to Elements.)

But.. there is no substitute for you taking a crapload of time to actually go through each control and see what it does for yourself. Tutorials are good if you know what you want to do.. as you can follow along with the tutorial on how to do it. If you play with things, you'll see all kinds of things that are never mentioned in tutorials..and you might just choose to use them. (You might even come up with better ways of doing things you want to do than you would read in any tutorial.) so don't be afraid to play with it.

(You should make sure to be working on COPIES of your photo files, and not the originals. Even Photoshop Elements is an "editor".. and if you save over your original, you can't go back to it.)
