I've had a provisional licence for 5+ yrs(failed the test a few times) Passed the test. Do those 5 years count as 5yrs claim free or is that only if u had the full licence. Was insured under my father's name.

If you are a named driver it doesn't count. You have to have your own policy for it to be counted as a no claims bonus. Provisional Drivng Insurance does count as No Claims Bonus but it has to be your policy.

NCB will accumulate regardless of what license you hold.
AFAIK most insurers will give some discount for named driver experience (usually 2 years named claim-free experience = 1 year NCB)

Aviva actually offered to give me NCB as a named driver, so my Mam has put me under her name on her Mondeo, as well as my own policy on my Civic. Come October next year I'll have 2 years no claims on the Civic and 1 year no claims on the Mondeo, so I'll have 3 years no claims in all :D :P
