3rd Learner Permit question

My learner permit is about to expire & right now I cannot afford to apply for my driving test, do I need a letter about my driving test to get a 3rd learner permit for the 2nd time or can I just go in & get my learner permit renewed?

you need the letter saying youve applied, sorry! im in exactly the same situation right now, it sucks, can hardly afford having a car but need it as i have a 3 yr old and wud be stuck without. now im hoping if i can get the cash together at the weekend ill get the letter the same week as i apply or ill be illegal:eek:

if you can get hold of the €75, see it as an investment, pass and you might get a refund on the insurance depending how long to run on your premium

You can always apply for the test, and when the date comes, defer it. This way you won't have to sit the test before you are ready.

Thanks guys, I booked it on the credit card. I hate debt but I had to do it

It wasn't necessarily that I wasn't ready but I just don't have the funds right now. Fingers crossed I'll pass first time.

My learners permit expires in the Nov , Im just wondering if I apply for my test before then do I get another learners permit for having proof i applied for the test ? how do I go about renewing my learners permit then ?

Hi everyone. Just looking for help my 2nd learners permit has expired. I have done numerous of lessons over the years without getting onto the next step of applying for a test. What would be my best options here could i do more lessons with the expired permit and then apply for test. would the instructor accept this though? I am at a loss what to do any help grateful

You must apply for a test before you can get a third learner permit. It would be illegal for you to drive with an expired licence.

Once you have applied for the test, have a letter of acknowledgement in particular a letter with your test date, as proof of intention of sitting a test before getting a third learner permit.

Its only €15 to renew your licence. The cost of the driving test has increased though. Its currently €85 to apply for the test.

My story is a bit more complicated I guess. In October last year I get a 2 year ban for drink&driving. My second learner permit is due to expire in July this year. My question is if I applied for a driving test , get the letter confirming that I have applied and the test will take place lets say in August, is there a chance I could get a third learner permit then? As obviously I cannot sit the test because I am not allowed to drive.

What do you think, is there a point to apply for a driving test as it costs 85 euro? Have anybody had such situation already?

My understanding is that you can a get stay on your ban for a day through the courts to take your test
Otherwise when your ban expires you can then renew
