Am I the only one who's experience with 3 has been nothing but bliss? I been all over Dublin since I picked up my iPhone in Liffey Valley last Friday and kept checking to see if and when the signal dropped etc. The only time 3G went off was in the basement of IKEA. It switches seamlessly between wifi and 3G.

While appreciating some members are having dreadful problems with 3 others aren't. So for the sake of balance if nothing else how's 3 been for you?

So far, so good for me. I switched the Friday before the iPhone was released originally, so have been using 3 for about a month and a half now. Mainly in Dublin, with a couple of trips up north. Reception hasn't been a problem.

They are going to have to sort out their customer care though. I'm on the Relax 90 thirty day contract plan. I phoned them yesterday to enquire about switching to the new mini flex thirty day plan. The only way they had for me to switch was to give them the 30 days notice to cancel the current plan, and then get a new sim for the new plan!!! it is not a big task to switch plans, they should be well able to do it as simply as when the next invoice cycle comes around it automatically switches to the new plan requested. The fact that they can't/won't do something so simple could lose them custom in the future because if people have to go to the trouble of cancelling their existing sim and applying for a new one, they may be just as likely to make that application to a different carrier!

Had my iPhone on 3 for over a year and in the main it's been fine.
Every now and then I can't get a 3g signal when my mates on O2 can but as my bills are 1/2 of theirs I can't complain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,212 ✭✭✭chris_ie

All good here too. Yeah sometimes the 3G disappears on me but I figure it's teething problems. Some of the complaints I've seen are a bit over the top. 3 do their best to give good coverage everywhere. If I was switching to another carrier I would make sure I had coverage at my house and places I'm most likely to be before I switched. Had a 12 month contract with 3 which ended last Oct-Nov, and now on 18 month contract with iPhone. Never had any issues with them so far.

initially I had trouble with the whole 2G/3G issue but since doing a Network Reset and putting Carrier Settings to Automatic the issue has gone away, so I'm sitting nicely with loads of extra flexi-units and good speed on tethering. I am also happy in the knowledge that they are still aggressively upgrading their 3G/4G network and will be for some time.

I am well pleased with my iPhone purchase, particularly if Three start offering some FAI international tickets to their customers! ;)

Quick question, anyone know why the iPhone isnt listed on the site yet for 'My Mobile' in My3? :P

I got my iphone4 on the Friday that it came out. I had some problems with 3g on the Friday but that was while my number was porting over. I have had no problems with the network since then. I have yet to have to call customer care. I am hoping i never have to from what I see.
Overall so far I am happy with 3 and my cheaper
Phone with the better price plan for me.

Strong fast 3G signal in my house and at work. Noticed lack of 3G on M50 but that was while my porting was going through, which took 3 days but is working now.

    Over all i'm pretty happy.

Does anyone else have a small light leak in the bottom left of the screen? Can only see it on a dark background when the screen is lit. Not a major issue but I'm a perfectionist.

I've had no issues at all and I'm well happy with the coverage. I'm getting 3G in places where I only had EDGE on O2. Paying 1/3 of the price also.

Ok apart from the 3g issue.
Actually, people seem to be having one of three issues:

    1) Not going to 3G automatically. It happens to me mostly when I'm leaving my house and the WiFi system. Seems to "forget" to change over to 3G. usually fixed by Airplane mode on/off.
    2) Not getting any data when there is no 3G coverage i.e. not/can't switching to GPRS. Three have told someone this will be fixed in the next week.
3)Showing 3G active, but not getting any data. This seems to be the network over-stretched. Presumably this will get better as things settle down and they get accustomed to the demands on the system, a bit like AT&T at first in the US.

problem 1 - I think this is something Apple will have to fix, in conjunction with 3. The phone seems to forget to go back to a 3G signal - it was exactly the same on my 8GB 3G, and stephenbrow had exactly the same on his 3GS. It would suggest to me a problem in the iOS software, rather than a hardware problem. I would have thought this should be relatively easy to fix - look at iPhones on O2 and VF and see where they are different. problem is 3 have only had it OFFICIALLY for a week, and experiencing teething difficulties. In fairness, look at how long VF have had to get a decent website, and it is so bad, its like it was done by a pissed up, blind, bi-polar alco on a permanent diet of skunk - as a joke!!!

Some very good points. I moved to 3 because they finally made the iPhone affordable for me. I'm experiencing all of the problems said above. It'd be nice to hear from 3 so we could know if they are indeed trying to solve some or all of the problems.

In fairness to 3, their CS staff couldn't be more helpful, if a little "misinformed" sometimes. I think 3 will have to bring the CS back to Ireland if they want to play with the big boys. Dealing with Waterford is just brilliant. No arseing around, just straight to business. The Indian call centre guys can overload you with info about what you are entitled to etc......

If they'd reply to emails, it'd make me a lot happier.

Their customer service is a big issue if you do have problems. Think long waitings time and unhelpful staff either reading from a manual or clueless.

Irish customer care is no great shakes from the other networks, have you ever tried to set up and eircom email on a meteor handset and look for support when it just won't work, it's quite an experience....

3's business support is in Ireland, the big boys are looked after.

I've had my 3gs with 3 for about a year now.

    1) their prices are very reasonable - the service is very good

    2) we live with everything else because of (1)

    3) in Cork, 3 show up in the operator list as 3 & 3(3G) - if you are in an area with somewhat shady 3G it will move over to 2g network and not move back to 3G when possible. - you have to go to airplane mode and out again.

    4) their customer services are a true waste of time in its true definition - look up futility in a dictionary and it will say - call 3 customer services for *anything* to experience true futility.

    5) You can't top up online

    6) you've gone to the shop to but top up and you're calling 3 to get the top up registered - you will have to listen to sales pitches for over a minute before getting a chance to put in your topup.

    7) texts from other network can at times be hours delayed.

3 has a good offering if you don't rely on texts from other networks and if you don't run in to any problems.

I have to say I'm fairly pleased with everything having moved from VF. The speeds are great on the phone and also while tethering. Having said that, I was occasionally getting the missing '3g' at the top of the phone, but (and I'm not sure whether it's co-incidental or whatever) I turned on 'data roaming' in the settings two days ago (from a recommendation on Boards) and my 3g signal hasn't dropped since.

Are most of you '3' employees, at least sounds like it.
Most of the opinions on other threads were sincere. Fact is, a company sells a product that is supposed to perform a function, they charge a fee for that service, problem is the product they're selling seem inconsistent etc. Would any of you be happy if you paid €600 a year for your TV licence and your Tv kept shutting down or losing reception half way most things you were trying to watch, turning it on in the evening hoping you might be able to watch ALL the news. This seems to be the service '3' is providing to a lot of people here including me. I'm not happy about it, I don't want the hassle of moving provider, but I want to get what I paid for.

To those of you with a good service, lucky you.

Here's another fact to chew over breakfast: some of us aren't having any problems. Did you even read the OP? And as for being 3 employees, I certainll amn't, I'm just getting what I paid for.

I've been a 3 customer for nearly 2 years, never had a problem with texts being delayed. I am the only one I know on 3, all my mates, family and my girlfriend are on different networks.

So when people say bad things about 3 they are being honest, but when people praise or say good things about 3 they MUST work for 3? What a dumb statement. Why don't accuse the people saying bad things about 3 of being people who work for O2 or Vodafone? Same thing.

I have a phone for work that is on the O2 network, the coverage at my house for O2 is very poor. I wouldn't start going online saying that O2 are rubbish etc because I cant get coverage, I'd face facts and go to a network that does have good coverage in my area. Some people should have done a bit more checking before going with a carrier.

The iPhone doesn't work properly on 3. If you think it does good for you but it doesn't. Having no data outside of 3g coverage makes it completely unusable for me anyway. Was with them for 2 weeks and left.

Correction, the iPhone doesn't work properly for you on 3. My iPhone works great on 3 for me, it can do everything it is supposed to do, and does it well.

Exactly, thats the type of comments I'm talking about. It doesnt work for him/her so it doesnt work for everyone. Ridiculous statement. My iPhone also works great on 3 so guess that makes gpf101's argument invalid (that it iPhone doesnt work on 3).

O2 coverage is terrible at my house. So I guess I can say all phones dont work on O2...

I pay €150 a year for my TV licence and don't even watch RTE  but thats OT for another thread

There already is a thread for problems with the iPhone 4 on 3. Why do people need to come onto this thread to give out about it. Its not as if the thread titles are vague.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

There is no data unless your in 3G coverage. So a huge part of the phone does not work in a lot of the country. If that's ok with you then I suppose you can say it works perfectly. All iPhones are the same. There are not different ones for different people. The phone either works properly on 3 or it doesn't. It doesn't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭Walkman

As already said 2G data will be enabled August 13th......oh and my iPhone works great on 3 so I say IT DOES WORK

You're still not getting this are you? Plain and simply, my iPhone works brilliantly, perfectly, stunningly on 3, so therefore it works. The fact that yours doesn't is unfortunate but is not the thread's problem or fault.

Do you know how impressed I am with 3? I was out on the Irish sea today off Wexford and had full 3G, I even managed to watch a Real Madrid video on my phone while taking a break...this is cool...I never had this with o2 before.

Also, even in other obscure places around the country where 3G was not happening for me with o2, it's now happening with 3. I'm actually delighted with 3 at the moment.

*There is one thing though I'm unhappy with, I was speaking to a customer service rep who told me my free add on of downtime calls wouldn't start until September and then I'd be charged €4.99 per month for it? Because EU Roaming is already my free add on???

Don't ask, I didn't know what the **** he was talking about.
