The EU Commission Representation in Ireland and the Celsius research Group, DCU, are hosting a special one day conference entitled "Communicating environmental issues through the web - What can the internet deliver?"

Time: The conference takes place on Saturday 4th September at 10.00 am

Location: European Union House, 18 Dawson Street, Dublin 2

    The aim of the conference
Across a range of environmental fields including loss of bio-diversity, maintenance of natural resources and climate change we need to communicate to the public and policy-makers the need for a change in our behaviour.
The internet is a powerful tool in communicating the threats the earth is facing. This one day conference seeks to explore how the internet is being used to convey the complex issues and challenges associated with the environment.
Social media and special web based tools all have a role to play in communicating to members within an environmental organisation, to the public and to key decision makers. The question is how can these tools be further harnessed?
This conference will bring together journalists, academics, politicians, business people, leaders from the environmental NGO sector and social media practitioners to discuss how web based technologies can be used to communicate complex issues.
Fred Pearce, the well known science writer, columnist for the Guardian and consultant editor for the New Scientist, has kindly agreed to deliver the keynote address.
The day will be broken into four sessions followed by a reception.
