Munich Airports which one???

Hi All, Im boking flights for a group to Munich. At the moment aerlingus are 25euro more each and the flight lands in Munich (franz josef strauss). Ryanair lands in Munich (Memmingen). We are staying in munich city centre. Which flight will work out best with Airport to city centre travel in mind. If they both work out…

Hi All,

Im boking flights for a group to Munich.
At the moment aerlingus are 25euro more each and the flight lands in Munich (franz josef strauss). Ryanair lands in Munich (Memmingen). We are staying in munich city centre. Which flight will work out best with Airport to city centre travel in mind. If they both work out similar we would prefer the quickest.
Any ideas???

Go for the Aer Lingus one.

Memmingen is a bit away from Munich to the West....for convienience sake I wouldnt.

Memmingen is nowehere near Munich. That advertising of Memmingen Airport as Munich West is misleading.

A train from Memmingen to Munich Airport costs 20 -30 €, plus all the travel time of two hours.

Go for Franz Josef Strauss. Buy a train ticket in the airport and it will take you into the very centre of Munich in about 40 minutes.

You'll be at Flughafen Munchen. Ask at a ticket desk for train tickets; its slightly more expensive but there are a rake of different types of day tickets and coverage you can get so its best to ask.

Definately take the Aer Lingus one: whenever you see Ryanair quoting an Airport like "City (Somewhere else)" you know its a typical Ryanairport, the Somewhere else is nowhere near the City. Munich FJS on the other hand has U-Bahn (U1 and U8) links directly to Munich city centre. It's also a pretty nice airport.

S-bahn

I'm currently there, flew in on Sunday and I have to get back there to collect someone on Sunday again - FJS is not the most convenient of airports I've been to, but it is not FR...

For example, FJS is about 15 minutes north of where I am, but both S1 and S8 go around and over my town, so I've to go back 30 minutes to the city and then out again, but it is not FR

For tickets, from the arrivals door, go towards the check in desks, down a level and into the shopping area, there's a train ticket office and station.

And it is not FR..

Agree with JohnC that this is the wrong forum, but for the sake of accuracy:

1. Memmingen is WEST of Munich
2. You only gave the travel times of the S1. If going to Ismaning, Messe, Ostbahnhof, or any other eastern parts of Munich, it is faster to take the S8. Marienplatz/Hauptbahnhof are much of a muchness – just take whichever of S1/8 turns up first.
3. You really could have just put in the two airports in google maps to find out where they were...

My favourite is Ryanair's "Bratislava - Vienna", it's not even in the same country (even if it's not all that far).
