my dell laptop needs some attention.

the hinges are gone a bit wonky , not holding up the screen securely.

anyone know who is the best & cheapest in Galway for laptop repair?

If its an old laptop, it may genuinely be cheaper in the long run to buy a new one.. Or maybe a good quality second hand one.

Sell your current one for say, €150, and pay another €200 (Which you would pay to get it repaired) and you've got yourself a new/next to new laptop.

    /my €0.02

If you do decide to fix it, lapteck up from McSwiggans might be worth a try.

I used Sean from the "pcgp" recently and I was very impressed. I had a problem with my laptop LCD and I got a few opinions on it, all told me I'd probably need a new LCD. Sean told me something much simpler was wrong and picked it up,fixed it,dropped it back next day and charged me 60 euro altogether including parts and labour.Site is www.pcgp.ie .He's on Fr Griffin rd I think.

Seems to be 10% off if you book online btw.

    By far my favorite.
Rang around for quotes looking to repair a ccfl bulb as i didnt have the time. Half the places just emailed me back convincing me to drop the unit in for a diagnostic for €50 odd...when i blatently knew whats wrong with it!
Sean on the otherhand gave me utmost help through email on what could possibly be wrong and tips to fix it...nice to have a technical conversation on equal terms!

Laptek too are very friendly and reasonable.

EDIT: Reading ur post, download the manual for your laptop from google. It may be as simple as tighting up the hinge screws...easy for anyone.

Why, what problem are you having?

Thank you for response. Screen going intermittently pink. Left in for repair, screen replaced (€150). Now screen going intermittently pink & green! (Sony Vaio)
Have read that ribbon on hinge gives problems.

Yea, sounds to me that the most likely culprit could be the ribbon cable (possibly being pinched in the hinges or that it's faulty).

To test if it is the ribbon cable and not a hardware problem (less likely that it actually is) try and plug a normal PC monitor into your laptop and check the display on it.

If the display hasn't improved since you got the replacement I'd advise going back to the people who did the repair.
