"The weight just crept on again"

I was reading the other day that Vanessa Feltz got a gastric band fitted, as she kept losing loads of weight (between 4 and 6 stone) and then putting it on again. She said she was horrified to find she was huge again due to the weight 'creeping on' again, and finding herself a size 18.

Link (apologies for linking to the Daily Mail) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1290696/Vanessa-Feltz-gastric-band-fitted.html

I can't understand this. Surely if you lose a significant amount of weight you are then inherently conscious about your weight... how does 6 stone reappear without you taking action first? I can understand a few pounds coming back onto the scales alright, but 4 - 6 stone?? Surely after one stone came back you'd remember what it was like to be huge and then get back to good habits to remain healthy.

Can anyone shed light on this? I honestly can't get my head around it.

Feltz is so fat that when she last stepped on a scales it said 'to be continued'...

    Baffling.

No self control at all. It aint rocket science. Eat less calories than you use and you'll lose weight.

    Weight doesn't "suddenly appear".

was that a fact or a lame attempt at a joke?

She's so fat, I tried to ride her but I needed water and flour just to fine a hole.

It was a lame joke. No attempt. It just failed.

Em. It was a magic hole finding flower. :o. Ok, I meant flour, but in my defense, I'm just in from the pub.

Maybe there was some sort of "Rip Van Winkle hooked up to a liquified McDonald's drip" type situation going on?

If a person has been overweight and loses that weight, they have the potential to put the weight back on quite easily - because fat cells have been created.

Sorry, source? Not on it being easy to put it back on but it being easy to put back on "because fat cells have been created".

What's the water for? Surely you'd just roll her in flour and look for the wet spot?

Never heard of that. I put weight on when I eat & drink too much.. Mostly the drink :D (then a Vindaloo, nan bread, poppadoms & rice).

it annoys me how people without serious weight issuses (and im talking at least twenty stone) are allowed have gastric bands fitted when all these people need to do is get off there ass and excercise and eat a healthy diet.
its got to the point that kids now look at this as a viable option to be considered well before just having a healthy lifestyle.
can anyone justify it cause i cant......rant over. im off to macdonalds

Please don't make this an anti fat thread. This is an anti Feltz thread. Her obesity is only a relatively small part of what makes her such a hate figure.

  • a lapband only reduces the size of the stomach it can expand again if you overeat there are no quick fixes as lynford christy once said if you want to lose weight eat less move more its not rocket science !

I was 19 stone at one stage..

But normally i was at about 18..

Ive lost 1 and a half stone in the last six weeks

Im now just over 16 and a half.. amazing what not eating breakfast rolls does

I´ve seen an item on the Dutch television about that. It´s actually true. From what I can remember, the cells soak up every little bit of fat that comes along because thats what they are used to, causing people who lost weight to sometimes/often quickly regain all the weight they have lost, something adding on more

    /boring bit

Stuff like gastric bands obviously don't address the root causes of obesity. I'm sure there must be a temptation to think ah I can do it again: like the weight loss is a kind of credit that you can just eat (pun withstanding) into again.

I wasn't aware of that. But surely they only regain fat if they stop exercising and start eating crap again? I've never known anyone to put fat back on after losing it while maintaining the lifestyle that lost it for them.

Sorry, but it annoys me when people say that - if it were that straightforward, there wouldn't be fat people. :)
I'm not saying it's something to be complacent about - I'm pretty health and weight conscious myself - but a bit of understanding of the difficult relationship some people have with food would go a long way. Yes, I know, some people are simply lazy, but for many, it's more complex than that.

I find boredom leads to hunger which inturn leads to people eating to excess.

I've managed to lose about 2 stone over the last 6 months or so by changing my diet, cutting back on the drink and doing more exercise. The exercise keeps the boredom away. Have to say it's the fittest and healthiest I've been since I was about 14 (pre booze :D ) Defo don't want to go back to the way it was, waking up in the middle of the night with stomach cramps, hangovers going into work etc

Even concrete would creak under that, tis true. Besides, once she started chewing on you, the game would be up.....

Indeed. It stops massive meals, but thats it. Soft drinks and the like tend to undo the good. I was watching a thing about it on CH4, and this one had the band in, but had managed to go back up to such a weight she needed oxygen when lying down.

It is that simple. people should not be allowed gastric band surgery unless they need to be carted about in a wheelchair, and even then i just say eat less vennessa.

And i disagree, for many vannessa feltz lookalikes out there, they are just pure lazy
