Share internet using MacBook running 10.5.8 & Huaweii E122 modem on 3 network

I've posted this in the Mac forum as well but since it's a broadband related question someone here might have an answer for me.

I have a MacBook on which I'm running 10.5.8 which I use a Huaweii E122 dongle to browse the net with 3.

I recently bought the new iPhone but live in a non 3G area so can't use the web functionality of the phone at home. I've heard of people sharing Internet by going into System Preferences > Internet & Network > Sharing & using the built-in Airport to use their Macs as a "router".

I've found numerous tutorials which tell me how to do this if I had standard cable internet. When I try to do it using my 3 mobile broadband the Share Internet option under Sharing is greyed out. I take it that the installation of the driver for the dongle closes some ports or something along those lines which doesn't allow me to share. Does anyone know of a workaround or is anyone doing this successfully on another provider.
