I want to send my cousin a jar of her favourite jam. Do they allow jam into the States, does anyone know?

The United States government have preserved the right to confiscate all incoming jam.

Has the jam ever been involved in acts of genocide? Has the jam ever been a member of the Nazi party?

Wrap the Jam Jar in a nice fancy parcel and label it

    "Uncle Paddys cremated remains"

footnoteed "Dam that knob eating AIDS"

    They'll never touch it..

...cause if you put too much in, it'll get jammed in the letterbox.

No, the manufacture and distribution of crushed fruit is strictly regulated in the United States and is the preserve of the native tribes. The Jam-Iroquois have sole rights to this.

Put it a case.. make sure to spread the weight evenly or it'll be lob sided.

Yep. But don't try to hide it in Doughnuts. The postage is prohibitive.

Why would you post jam to America?

I can only assume that some dimwit Irish person you know who's over there can't get Chivers & "the jam tastes different here".

Just like those idiots who bring tea bags & Denny sausage with them on a week's holiday to Spain.

Nope. My cousin was born over there. She loves damson jam, but can't get any, so I thought I'd send her a jar of the Bon Maman stuff. Anyone who'd import Chivers needs their head examined.

Thanks for all the puns folks, they got the morning off to a great start!

You may bring bakery items and certain cheeses into the United States. The APHIS Web site features a Travelers Tips section and Game and Hunting Trophies section that offers extensive information about bringing food and other products into the U.S. Many prepared foods are admissible. However, bush meat made from African wildlife and almost anything containing meat products, such as bouillon, soup mixes, etc., is not admissible. As a general rule, condiments, vinegars, oils, packaged spices, honey, coffee and tea are admissible. Because rice can often harbor insects, it is best to avoid bringing it into the United States. Some imported foods are also subject to requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Taken from here. I'm guessing jam should be OK and here is the list of prohibited and restricted items.
