    Hi everyone,

I have just adopted a new puppy, she is a mini dacshsund and chihuahua mix.
I just want to know if anyone knows their temperment and any health issues she may have. I took her as she wouldnt have had a home otherwise. Please dont leave comments outlining that she is a hybrid mutt as this dog is been given a loving home and not put down.

    Thanks in advance.

Well done for taking her in. As you say yourself, she is a cross, so temperament will be unknown, as will health issues. She may inherit the good from both breeds, or the bad from both. Regarding temperament though, a huge part of it is upbringing, so once she's had her jabs and can go out, take here everywhere, make sure she has as many new experiences as possible, and just because she's small, don't pick her up if you think she may be a bit scared. She needs to learn that if somethings scarey, but it doesn't phase you, then its okay.

    Any pics?:D

I have a Chihuahua and they are a pretty healthy breed, much hardier than people give them credit for. They can suffer with water on the brain and dry eyes due to their 'apple' shaped head but all in all the are pretty healthy. The main problems Dachuands have are with their backs.
Personality wise its hard to say, Dauchuands are pretty out going and Chi's are usually pretty wary, one person kinda dogs, your pup could turn out to be either of the two or meet half way in the middle, it would of course also depend on how much socialising they get when young.

    We have a JRT/Basset cross ( Russet? ;))

The mother was dumped when she was in pup..

She has the weight of the Basset, and the bounce of the Jack Russell. so she bounces at our head height..

The nose of the hound in her, and the splayed feet and deep chest..

    Crosses are intriguing!
