Right I started a new job ( my first job ) and I'm recieving less wages than I expected, Am I paying emergency tax? how do I find out whether I am? and how can I claim it back?

look at the end of your payslip or where it say tax and if their is an E there you are paying emergency tax you need to ring tax office for you area and apply for credits

by law you are entitled to a payslip some companies are a bit slow and you can get then a couple of days after you get paid but if not ask for one
but i would also ring tax office and see if they have registered you as an employee yet

depends where you live but in dublin it can take anywhere up to 6wks to process the paperwork
leave it two weeks and give them a call see what the story is and best of luck just think of the extra money in your wages when it comes through :D

If your employer uses revenue online services, then once the revenue recieve your paperwork the details should be with your employer online a day or two later.

Alternatively ring the tax office and give them all your details over the phone and they will usually update it that day.

Get this sorted asap. Without a payslip you have no idea what's being taken on your behalf; PAYE, PRSI, Income and Health levies, etc. Imagine if you need to go on the dole in a couple of years and you haven't any PRSI contributions?

Regarding Emergency tax; just consider it a way of saving money. But do get it fixed soon as it becomes deliberately punitive very quickly.
